I think this is a good time and place to give Alphasand Dunes a plug while we wait for Joe.

Just had to post this. One of the most beautiful views I’ve experienced in this game so far. Just imagine if it was planted 😍

I should’ve expected RJM would be in favor of eye candy to distract you from the eye candy that’s distracting you from the golf.

Well I finally found some time to play some rounds and thought I best start with this as I did enjoy it a lot on my first play. First thing for me to say is that I rarely enjoy many rounds of golf on this game with green speeds under 170 but the way the approach shots are set up and how well the green contouring is done makes this a very enjoyable putting course. Although this course is a traditional British/Irish links by nature it doesn't come across as your typical links golf that we usually see, it fits ore of an ultra obscure type of links that was probably laid out mid to late 1800's with a very minimal approach on quirky land, much like some of the Irish links on the outskirts of the country. The bunkering is perfect for this course they're clean, sat down but with a bit of dip in them and the walls are probably the best you can get them in this game, appreciate that effort to replicate that look. Obviously spotted a lot of template influence on this course during my first playthrough so this time I'm going to list hole by hole what I interpret them as, even if you've not intentionally copied any certain concepts for some of the holes, I enjoy doing this on a majority of courses and it helps to determine how varied they are as a whole.
Hole 1 - No particular template as such but it is an awkward tee shot with slight winds into or across. Big fan of the large dune's that are used as a perimeter.
Hole 2 - I'm sensing a bottle/leven concept here especially as the green is angled to the left which makes playing out to the far right piece of fairway the best option for left side pins. Love how the fairway feeds into the bunkers.
Hole 3 - Pretty unmistakeable green site here... The lions mouth bunker just fits perfectly in, well sculpted and scaled.
Hole 4 - The bunkering along the left of the green here is top notch, love the look of it from tee to green and really affects shots to different pins.
Hole 5 - In terms of templates I think this hole best suits a "plateau" concept in that not only is the green chiselled into a hill side but there is also a prominent back plateau section on the green. Good risk reward tee shot too for the best approach in.
Hole 6 - The a solid original hole which has it's green site as it's best feature. Also liking that DAF left bunker.
Hole 7 - big fan of short 4's that are only really reachable in a certain wind setting. Fan of the bumpy green surrounds for missed shots.
Hole 8 - Sneaky difficult three based on the uphill elevations. As far as these quirky links courses go this green looks exactly where it should be.
Hole 9 - This hole is an absolute twat off the tee, either take on the big carry past the central bunker or lay back well short juts to keep yourself in a good position for the second. Great green shape being somewhat slim and having the fairway run off left, it's almost like a half punchbowl in a full punchbowl setting.
Hole 10 - This drive and pitch hole certainly qualifies as a narrows in my opinion as taking a drive requires you to thread it between rough and the bunker on the right, unless you've got wind into. Driver isn't always a great though as depending on pin positions you can be left with those awkward firm bouncing pitch shots that are hard t stop near the hole. My favourite short hole on the course.
Hole 11 - Back to back short holes, love it, matchplay style. The green splitting via a plateau makes laying up into different parts of the fairy a genuine usable strategy.
Hole 12 - Back to back to back short holes... even better. Even though the green site is quite large it fits well into the Knoll category as there are fall offs all around and it can be a right bastard to certain pins if you're playing a pitch shot. I'm forever playing for full wedge shots into this green. This is by far the quirkiest of the short fours.
Hole 13 - Only hole where I thought there wasn't much to it and to be honest par fives are usually the most uninspiring holes on a course in my opinion, hence why I rarely build more than two par fives on any of my courses. That said the green shape and contouring was interesting enough what with the large mound on the left making playing out to the right a preferred choice of tee/approach shot.
Hole 14 - Do I even need to mention where I think this idea came from? So many people are against this idea because it can cause moments of chaos and headaches for green staff... This is my favourite par three on the course, the contouring works perfectly with that internal bunker. P.S - the yardage on the card is fake news.
Hole 15 - Been waiting for one of these holes on the course, ones where you need to hug a certain side of the fairway to hang on to the short grass, this concept has potential to be recognised as some sort of new template. The green on this hole is brutal despite the usually shortish approach you have, pin 4 is a beast. This might be my favourite green contouring on the course and that front right bunker is gorgeous.
Hole 16 - This was an unexpected twist due to the broken fairway and the nature of the land movement but I think this makes for a lovely but subtle cape hole with that back section of the green jutting out into deep land depression. Hugging the left off the tee obviously the way to go for back right pins yet the big back kicker is nice reward for shots pulled left or just for simply using more ground game.
Hole 17 - 17 is a par three, we just cannot escape that cliché can we? Despite more yardage book propaganda this hole is a solid long three that is typical of a long three that it has you pick a spot to land and roll the ball. I felt that this hole could have been one sick natural reverse redan site and the back half of the green does play that way, but making it play front to back through out I feel would have made the roll much more interesting.
Hole 18 - The contouring of the green makes this the best two shot five on the course by a mile. Such interesting contours for a long approach and an exciting finish for anyone seeking an eagle catch up. This is only a possibility though if you risk the fairway bunkering on your tee shot.
Course deffo fits into the traditional links category and I know many have commented on the lack of planting but I'm not going to say much about that because I'm not much of a planter myself. Plays very fair and perfect for CC level competition. I hope it goes far.

Finally, a bump for this awesome links. I love the greens and the Steppetty-nominated sod (hedge) wall bunkers. Also played really challenging and often brutal but in the best way possible. Probably my favourite of your courses and it was one of the first I played in 2K.
