I gotta say, seeing the early scores I like this course even more. Its kind of fun to see all of us Euro guys struggling, a lot of over par scores. Having higher scores is a breath of fresh air because it rarely happens. Heard nothing but good things about this course and have played it twice already. Now, ask me if I REMEMBER the layout, holes, pins, etc and that's a big NO lol. As an Xbox player (in case any of you DIDN'T know! lol) I feel like I may just have a fighting chance this week if I play smart, based on these first round scores.

Round 1 I had 8 birdies and shot even par. I wish I would have played a practice round so I would have realized what a joke these pins are and just skipped this week. I can’t believe this was picked for a tour event. Just missing a clown and windmill to really put the finishing touches on this

I disagree with you on the greens I'm afraid Ben. I thought they were awful. It seems like all designers these days are creating courses with greens that are full of extreme slopes with red and yellow lines everywhere. Most of said courses are designed really well but I feel (and this is only my honest opinion) that they are let down by the very exteme greens. I understand that us as golfers need a challenge but these courses like Fairyland are to far fetched and don't represent real life. Rant over lol. P.S Keep up the good work b101 Happy to have a friendly exchange of views I guess I'd question what the understanding of very extreme greens is. Are you below the hole, above the hole etc? Take Oakmont, Shinnecock etc - very firm, very fast greens are common and we KNOW from pulling in Lidar that putting these greens at 187 would lead to lots of 'TGC illegal' pins, when in reality the speed would be even higher for tournaments. Are these greens a defence? Of course. They are large and you have to hit the right portion of them to score. That's a fair challenge. Thing is, a lot of players (not necessarily you) want to just play target golf, hit a number and get birdie. That's fine on certain courses, but others - links for example - are far more about working the ball to the hole, using slopes etc and getting creative. I've played Fairyland on numerous occasions as part of the contest. To claim the greens are awful is just misunderstanding the challenge, for me. If you are coming in from the wrong angle, you still have a shot, but you need to be considering where you are leaving the ball rather than going for everything. That's good golf, for me. Fair opinions on both sides. Makes me want to start my rounds tonight and "manage" the course, based on what Ben is saying here. I agree that there are going to be some horrible spots to be in with greens that have a tendency to have extreme sloping in areas. That's what happens when you put yourself in the wrong spot with a target golf mentality, which with all due respect, is PRETTY MUCH this game for a few of the platforms.

I couldn't resist with all the talk about practice. That would be me on the left.

This is exactly why I don’t practice! Yea yea, I thought of you right after those three bogeys. In this case it definitely hurt as I had some dialed in numbers from my practice round and then the wind was slightly diff in the real thing. On the counter point I practiced last week and ended up in 4th... maybe if I hadn’t I would’ve won?! Time to make that leap to PGA soon. You’re too good to be hanging around us chumps!

Third round +4 4th round -2 for a -3 total. Moneyman, for pure comedy sake you should ghost my third round. Vf downswing Came back with a vengeance. I must say, there are tough courses that you shouldn’t partake of adult beverages on, but this one I should have just started and ended straight out of the bottle.
On to next week maybe, let’s see if I drop below 200th place 🤣

Just to spite knothead85 and LEFTY79 I put up a decent second round -5 to finish -7 at the cut. Based on the scores so far I think that has a shot at making the cut... which would be absurd. Don’t worry Tyler, I didn’t practice before the second round.

Oh my.....(bury my head in shame)
I have shown my true level and sure to be propping up the field this week
+9 1st round +1 2nd round after 1 hole
All up until the ball hitting the green I played alright.
4ft putts being missed and ending up 30ft away, chipping back up from the fringe with ball coming back to my feet. I think I became defeated.
I looked at comments yesterday and it crossed my mind not to play this week, but then I thought with low scoring that if I can just pull it together then I got another chance of making a cut.....what a bummer eh!!
All said and done, I blame my own ability really!
Now question for you all, do I not complete the 2nd round for 2 demotion strikes, or do I persevere for 3 demotion strikes? Morally I know the correct answer.

Noted to use my B Controller this week- spontaneous (and unpreventable) Aerodynamic testing of the controller tends to happen on JoeG's greens.

Good evening, I almost created a new thread, lol. But here we are with almost a page filled already. I have to admit that I am one of those people who liked the course. But in my case, I believe it's more because I generally like these slightly geometric designs. I agree with Frans on the point about the pin placements right behind a slope/bunker/nomansland, though. Anyway, I am quite satisfied with my game so far, sitting at -9 (-2 and -7) halfway through. Good luck guys! -5 through round 1, double bogey on 11 really got me heated. Hopefully getting round 2 done tonight before you post the leaderboard tomorrow. Second round should be scoreable with the pin locations but I've disappointed myself before.
