The good - the course is absolutely beautiful, and the intention of many of the hole concepts is great.
Unfortunately the actual result of many of those concepts is absolutely terrible. The fairway sculpting is a disgrace, and the greens aren't much better. The bunkers with the 'gorse' around them is very realistic looking - but causes huge issues if you ever miss a green - purely in being able to see your golfer for chips and flops. There are at least 4 holes that all come into contention for worst hole design execution we have ever played.... and yet COULD have been great. (10, 16 and especially 12 being the biggest candidates)
So overall - despite really really wanting to like/enjoy this good looking course - there are some major playability issues which result in it being an absolute joke to play - and the issues get more and more prevalent as you play it more.
Was -17 at the cut, and not much more at the end - but as usual, that's irrelevant.

I think yes (given that the line of my putt would probably have to be 20 yards right of the putting surface)

Anyway, i'm flopping it. If it's a breach i'll take the DQ.

I heard two pros tested positive for Covid at Muirfield so I may sit this week out. I gave it a practice a few days ago and didn’t understand why we chose this. It doesn’t even sound fun two comments in.

Did you finish at -18 or better Jack? If so - that's a definite DQ (obviously) If -17 or worse - no issues at all mate (obviously)
Video evidence just backs up my OP............
(Being serious (ish) - I have no issues with flopping that - you just can't see the (invisible) windmill in your vid - so obviously blocked)

Anyone know what we're playing for the US Open? At least we should finally get a great track based on what came out of the recent major contest.

Jacko, I think that’s a must putt that obviously goes off the green, but you have to take your medicine for a bad approach, type of thing - that’s likely would I’d have done, and have done a couple of times over the years in obvious situations where I couldn’t keep the ball on the green. That said, I honestly don’t have an issue with you flopping and wouldn’t call for you to be DQ’ed, because I think it’s silly we have to putt those ones that clearly have zero chance of holding the green when we play these arcadey courses. That is just the way I’ve always interpreted the rule, but again, absolutely not demanding you be DQ’ed, and kudos for posting and being transparent about it.

The rule is.
Putter must be used on the green unless your putting line is obstructed by fringe/rough/bunker or your putt is longer than 100 feet, in which case use of a putter is not mandatory.
Putting line Definition: The "putting line" is the line that the player wishes his ball to take after a stroke on the putting green. Except with respect to Rule 16-1e, the line of putt includes a reasonable distance on either side of the intended line. The line of putt does not extend beyond the hole.
As i said, the line i wished to take would have been a country mile to the right (almost vertical in fact) where there was fringe/rough in the way. The bolded bit of the rule gives a hell of a lot more leeway than i thought existed which is probably why as two perfectly reasonable people we have different views on it.
Anyway, as i said, I believe it to be within the rule as written, but if the admins disagree then fair enough.

Not disputing your interpretation of the rule and situation, just providing an opinion based on a quick glance and prior experiences - not questioning your judgement at all. And as I said, don’t think you need to be DQ’ed, anyway. Good playing, too!
