Not sure without seeing pictures, but I'd imagine that you've got the sand too high up the face. Always better to sculpt outside the bunker afterwards and leave a bit more space between sand texture and fairway/green than you think you need.

Impossible with the designer to get a 3 a 6 inch vertical lip if that’s what you’re asking. This annoys the crap out of me when designing but it’s what we got.

Not impossible - Frankston Heath does a really good job of it - but it's certainly very tough.

Not impossible - Frankston Heath does a really good job of it - but it's certainly very tough. Played this course this evening and it was spectacular. I remember watching jim gems video on this one. Thanks for suggesting it. However, the bunkers and waste areas , although very good, don’t have the 3 - 6 inch vertical lip that makes them look like they were cut out of the turf kind of like a pot bunker but less wall. The designer did probably about as good a job as possible simulating this with the narrow borders of rough texture between sand and heavy rough but it still looks like the bunkers are just sitting on the ground not dug into it. No shadow effect. As of right now, I am unaware of any way to truly achieve this effect in the game. I thought that maybe that’s what the op was asking about.

Working in the Boreal theme will probably give you the closest theme to the illusion of a bunker lip, like your asking. Not perfect, but it has the most exaggerated edge effect. Judging from the trailer for PGA2K21, it looks like the bunker lips are more defined w/ out looking overly gaudy. So, hopefully, good news on the front in the future.

I haven’t done anything in boreal yet I’ll have to try it and see what I think. Thanks for the tip

My best bunkers involve a LOT of interior & lip sculpting with the thinner-edged brushes set to a raise/lower/flatten a few inches at a time. Plan to spend as much time on your greenside bunkers as the greens themselves, if you want them to look realistic.

My bunkers usually take me at least an hour on each one to get the sculpting at least close to what I want but It’s so worth it as I feel that good, realistic looking bunkers are one of the factors that really make a course “pop”. Just really wish that they had a more defined lip especially for the more wacky shaped ones that are my favorites.
