I tested noon and it looked okay and I wanted to try minimize green shadows with how many trees are on this course. But my test could've been one of those where it kept my lighting settings from the previous round like TGC likes to do. The default lighting keeps all greens shadow free. Wait...you're telling me there's a deliberate strategy to how designers setup the visuals of their courses? Get out of here....

The first test round I played was default lighting. Learned now that I have to reset the course in local matches if I’m playing a course back to back because otherwise it keeps the lighting from the first round no matter what. With that being said, I’m not usually just going to default lighting every round unless it’s a special circumstance with lighting like here. It makes everything repetitive and tied together. But the goal is always to have plenty of light. I hate dark courses and shadows as much as anyone.

Might be true for some but I’d argue more people publish default with the most picturesque lighting, not necessarily the best for tournament play — myself included. Morning or afternoon clear is usually the best lighting for smooth frames, while a lot of defaults are closer to dawn or dusk. Game needs a revamp on lighting. I’d like if inclination was removed so time actually mattered. Dawn on one course will look like 11:00 while it looks like 6:30 on the next. If anybody has any detail or understanding on exactly how it works from time of day on publish to the settings when creating a round, I’d be interested. As far as I know it’s all tied to inclination.

Thanks Tyler, I was getting tired of the repetition of playing golf courses with good lighting and was looking forward to them looking like sh#t sometimes. This week was vomit-inducing on the greens. Why are we messing with something that is not broken?

Ive always been taught best lighting for most courses when designing is 1200 midday and then tweak the inclination to your own preference that way you get looks and playability. Lighting is an art on this game if you set a mountainous background course on anything other than default your asking for trouble as moutains block the sun same if course is heavily tree lined. Shadows and high wind takes me back to my mushroom days!!!

First time in forum fellas. Hope everyone is well. Well, after missing the cut the past couple weeks, I finally may make the cut this week at the RBC Heritage ... woo hoo. On another note, I just posted something in the Bugs and Issues Board and thought I'd quickly share with youz. I was reviewing stats earlier to see where I sat with the rest of the field ... and I noticed the TGC stats did not count my Alby as an alby back in Week 22 at Pebble Beach on the 6th hole in Rd 2 (I think either Rd 1 or Rd 2). Hmph?!? Maybe TGC categorized it as an eagle? Not sure. Anyhow, cheers fellas. Stay safe.

There are certainly some who set lighting just to look pretty, but there are plenty of others who balance the views of a nice lighting setting with the playability variable of shadows on greens - either by lighting settings alone, or tree placement, or a combination of both. Even in the most densely planted of courses I've designed in the past, I always tried to keep shadows off of greens, or at least off of hole locations/areas, and I know there are a TON more designers who do the exact same (and better, obviously). Sure, definitely some cases when it's unavoidable, but I think you have to err on the side of a designers setup - especially when you are familiar with the designer and trust their approach to the design itself - more often than not. Just my opinion.
On the golf side, I've always really loved this course, so it's going to be a bummer when I throw out another -5/-7 MC. Maybe I'll employ the Big Randy (NLU) "Mental Miss" strategy and see how that plays out...

LMAO Sorry men I guess I don’t know how to create a thread without copying a post first .... rookie .. and I know my new friend Fadge won’t mind ... But anyways I was going to compliment Duke on the difficult and thankless job that he has taken on, I’m sure like most of us who play he is a working father who takes his time to try and make this sh%$ playable , if the lighting is off guess what it’s off for all of us and at the end of the day the cream will rose to the top . I love each and everyone of you guys and enjoy competing with you .

Hy hopes to now no hopes in the majors after 3 failed attempts to Finnish in a row for Matthias. Seriously, people must be having major issues with keeping in the cone

It's hard. Don't come out of the cone and don't hit it straight ... If you do, suspicions about the player... Hy hopes to now no hopes in the majors after 3 failed attempts to Finnish in a row for Matthias. Seriously, people must be having major issues with keeping in the cone

And yet out of 150 players, 130+ manage to do that perfectly ok each week,,,,by (you know) trying to play the game as it's meant to be played........but we are (along with the admins) seemingly the bad guys, being horrible to the poor repeat offenders.........
