Hey folks, I hope everyone had a safe and healthy week. Thought I would drop in and ask for some assistance and feedback on a new WIP that I will be releasing a Beta for this weekend.
So, I decided I wanted to try something different for my next course to shake things up a bit. In a moment of insanity, I decided to go with a Desert Theme and an Arizona setting. WTF was I thinking?!? LOL
Seriously, as most of my courses have an older school feel to them and are New England/East Coast courses (Rawhide is the only exception-CA), I wanted to work with a totally different theme, grasses etc.
Of course, there are some challenges associated with this theme, such as how do you make the landscape not look like the frickin’ surface of Mars? Plant away right? But that takes up the resource/planting meter.
So you gotta plant like hell, but not overplant etc. I am not telling ya anything new I suppose but here was my plan:
-Utilize the various grasses and bushes in the areas that are not rough so it doesn’t look like a lunar landscape
-Manage the transition from rough/grass to bare terrain with cart paths, which I usually use sparingly. But I had to add more rough in spots to manage the plant meter and break things up.
-Here's the kicker...no Palm Trees. They are not native to Arizona and you actually don’t see them in natural areas. Great, 'cos that leaves 3 freakin' trees to work with plus a couple o' cactus. Fab-U-lous. (Who’s dumb a** idea was this again?)
-Break up the landscape with anything else possible. So I decided to make it tournament style course, and use tents and the stands etc, and threw in a bunch of mulch garden areas.
-The layout is more modern type design to fit the theme…it’s a gonna be loooong—7500+ from tips, fairly firm (hey, it’s hot out there). And I threw a stream flowing through the course as well.
OK, with all that being said, here is my ask. Please give the Beta a try when it comes out (will let you know) and let me know what you think.
Does the look work? The planting etc? Too much? (Hey, I had to cover this damn thing up)
Most importantly…I design on PS4, I don’t know much about lag on PC players, FPS rating etc. How is it flowing with all the planting?
Of course, overall course playability, comments, areas for improvement etc.
Here are a few pics:
par 4 1st approach
long par 3 16th green
par 4 18th
More to come when I publish the beta, thanks in advance for any assistance, tips or help!
