That's the front 9! In reality, the front 9 is the warmup for the back 9. Testing during the design process did show that the front 9 played a little easier and I'm curious to see if everyone else finds the same.

Played the course and shot -6 from the back tees. I really liked the ideas of most of the holes. Good amount of creativity. Good effort for a first course. Moving forward you'll want to focus on smoothing out some of the extreme areas, and improve the bunker work making them more realistic (many nobody could actually stand in). There's a wealth of design tutorials available on this site (links to YouTube, etc), so if you're having difficult in any certain area you can watch and get some tips. Main thing is you'll get better the more time you spend in the designer, so just keep building!

Played this tonight from the back tees with master clubs and had 15mph winds on average, so pretty tough conditions for me. I had a clean scorecard until the 17th, when I hit a terrible chip and missed the par putt, LOL. So typically ME.
I really enjoyed your hole designs, and I see tremendous potential here. I definitely hope you keep practicing in the designer with the tools and getting used to how to "move dirt" around digitally, because it's clear that you know about strategic architecture with your hole designs. I believe you'll be putting out some fantastic courses in months ahead, please stick with it!
One of the most positive takeaways for me from this design is that the overall "feel" of the course was very accurate. Standing on the tee of one hole and being able to see another hole through the trees was a great choice to pull it all together. Thanks for the design!

In the real course the bunkers had more of a sharp edge like Augusta. So the game thoroughly frustrates me in bunker design. I’m going to hunt around for more help on getting better at bunkers. The only ones on the real course that were tough to stand in were the ones in the huge hill on #2. We had to take them by hand and they washed out after every rain. I figure it took me about 70 hours to build this course - many of those hours were learning the designer. So almost 2 months of spare time. I finally was done going over it time and time again but I’m going to try and be more patient on the smoothing - I think u r right on that one and my goal is realistic contours.

Standing on the tee of one hole and being able to see another hole through the trees was a great choice to pull it all together. Thanks for the design! Thanks for playing the course. My first round was +3 from the tips and my son was -1. So far I like that a course under 7000 yards isn’t too easy. You are so right about moving dirt! That was my biggest learning curve and I still struggle to figure it out. I can’t seem to get all those lumps and bumps turned into nice smooth flowing contours. I’m going to go to school on landscaping techniques. It’s so interesting you commented on the visibility around the course. After the initial construct, I went back around to parts of the course and cleared out some trees/brush and opened a few sight-lines up. I not only did it for the views but the superintendent in me wanted to have good air movement around the greens to avoid increased disease pressure. I’m glad you noticed something that I really did for myself more than the game play. I also think a course should flow and make sense. This piece of property is interesting because it’s thick canadian bush combined with a few open pine plantation areas - so there’s a few holes with some odd so contrast.

I thought I'd take a shot at creating a video of the entire course with some commentary. Take an 8 minute tour of the Island Springs Golf resort.
