You’re shocked that other people don’t agree with you?

Wakanya went for more of a bumpy fairway style while I went for flattish fairways. Was I penalized for this? Or is the judge talking about green/bunker sculpting? Again, not trying to argue the resuts it´s just that the feedback from the judges is so vague that I don´t know what to make of it. This is my main critique with contest feedback, it’s virtually worthless without specifics. I’ve finished both higher and lower in past contests than I thought I should’ve, ultimately it’s luck of the draw in how your course gels with the judges‘ personal preferences. The best suggestion I ever got was to read all the feedback, but then decide which parts are legitimate to you based on who understood what you were trying to accomplish, and only take that into account for your future courses. If you want me to PM you some of my thoughts on your course I’d be happy to do so.

Read thru objectively. From there, likely one of three things will happen (or a combination thereof): A) you're like, "Yep, he nailed it. He found the same flaws I did in the course." B) "I never thought of that, but it makes sense, I'll file it away for another course." C) "Ah yeah, this guy totally missed the boat on this course. Moving on."

Go for it.
I hope it will be possible to contact the judges after things have settled down a bit. Not to argue the results, just to get more specific feedback which as a rookie I would welcome. I feel like the feedback I received was very vague and none of the judges pointed out specific holes or specific examples which makes it hard for me to see where the judges are coming from. For example this statement confused me: "If it had the same level of sculpting as Wakanya has it would be a great course to play".

You'll get messaged far more detailed feedback in due course - these are just the summary notes. I was the judge that wrote this summary, but as Ben said you'll get more detailed feedback in due course. We still have a contest to judge and deadlines to meet so that is our no.1 priority. I would recommend getting feedback from the others who have offered, and I'll echo what Jeremy said take what you want from my comments as I may have not seen aspects as they were intended.

The reason I wanted to participate in these contests is to get exposure for my courses, but also to improve as a designer, so feedback coming from you would be very helpful for me. Thanks for taking the time to help a rookie out, that´s a noble move and very much appreciated. This is my main critique with contest feedback, it’s virtually worthless without specifics. The way I see it unless your course has anything glaring that really jumps out, either positive or negative, then most of the criticism will be very subjective. I guess that´s just the nature of these things.
So far my general takeaway from all this is that everyone liked the off course stuff, the majority of judges thought the sculpting was the biggest weakness (I´ll need more specifics on that, to fully see where the judges are coming from) and the majority of veteran designers thought the course played too straight forward. The good thing is all of this can be worked on, so I´m excited to build on the feedback for my next course and try to come in guns blazing next time, not just visually, but also with the actual on course stuff.
I was the judge that wrote this summary...
