Value seems to play a big roll in Golf Advisor ratings, and it tends to be 'hidden gem' types that score best on there. It's most likely not a better course than Whistling and Erin Hills, but those courses have ridiculously high expectations to live up to. I noticed that as well for Highlands of Elgin, which, while not a spectacular course perhaps fits that 'hidden gem' label a little bit. That would make sense. I see it's over $400 to golf at Whistling and Erin hills is close to $300 so yeah bang for your buck has got to factor in. Still in my opinion it's for sure a better course than the TPC Twin Cities by my house actually having played that course as well

Hard to believe you used to play an 18 hole round for under $30, now that was a genuine bargain, and yet I used to think that was expensive. My 9 hole rounds used to be about a $1 a hole, only at public courses. The semi-private ones were a bit more. Yes this was back in the 80's and 90's. Its just gotten outrageous at this point.
Only way I can afford a round now is using TGC, only thing I miss is looking around in the woods for balls to find, those were the real Hidden gems !

Found a great short video on Wild Rock with a segment of Dr. Hurdzan talking about the course. Wanted to revisit this again since I will be heading back for another round at Wild Rock in a couple weeks. To say I'm excited is an understatement. I will take pictures while I'm out there for a first hand view and let you know how I played (as long as it's not too embarrassing).
Wisconsin and Minnesota are the only states I've played golf in so my experience with different courses in real life is limited but I just can't get over how amazing the public courses in Wisconsin are. Anybody know of other states that have fantastic public courses? How are the public courses in the UK?

My buddy who lives in MInneapolis has been going over to Troy Burne a lot recently. He’s been raving about it there...
