These are unquestionably the most important guys in the business today. People are typically divided on whose work they enjoy most.
So, what does TGCTours think?

Oh god, this is a tough poll. Would prefer to pick all 3. There are some smaller guys such as Silva, DeVries, Weed, Smyers, and several more that are a bit easier to distinguish among.
I'm between c/c and Hanse, but with my limited knowledge of Hanse's portfolio as a designer (although Boston Golf Club is amazing) I'm going c/c.

This is like choosing between Tolkien, Lovecraft, and Le Guin. All fantastic; personal preference is Coore/Crenshaw.

As much as I love Gil (Ohoopee and Streamsong Black) and Doak (Tara Iti), C&C are just too good. When you play one of their courses you just know it’s different (better) than what you’re used to. Their original design projects are amazing (Friar’s Head and Sand Hills) and all of their renovations are top notch too (Pinehurst and Maidstone). I’ve been fortunate enough to play a couple of C&C’s in the last few years and they were some of the best golfing experiences I’ve ever had. All of the guys you’ve mentioned in this post have a mission to create fun and interesting courses in a very natural setting which is exactly what I love most about golf.

Cuscowilla (C&C) has been around since 1997 and it still doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Also, I don't like when new courses are built and are immediately considered the 2nd or 3rd best in the state. A course needs 5 to 10 years to really "settle" into its environment.

Even Tom Doak said himself that a course needs 5 years to fully mature.

I’ve only played the courses at Bandon so it’s hard to make any solid judgement but I’ve always liked how Tom D has been such an outspoken advocate for and critic of golf course architecture. His willingness to engage In the public dialogue has helped change the conversation and push golf architecture away from past conventions and open the minds of a whole generation architects and armchair architects alike. All these guys produce amazing work but for me Tom D has probably done the most to change the culture around golf architecture.

I think Doak has the best course of the three in Tara Iti. I think C&C has probably the best overall portfolio of the three. I think Hanse has utilized lesser sites the best and (arguably) has displayed the widest style range of the three.
I went with Hanse.

I went with Hanse due to his versatility of projects from restorating old courses, renovating modern courses and even building his own courses but with the ideas and principles of a time gone by. Doak also falls into this category but like C&C he builds minimalist courses most of the time and to be honest I'm not exactly a big fan of that style.
