Still have a ton of planting to do, and I realized to late into it, that I know absolutely nothing about making waterfalls...so...we'll get there eventually... Still having a blast... ~Stay Drnk

Still having a blast... ~Stay Drnk Those don’t look bad at all. For knowing nothing about making waterfalls you’re doing just fine. It’s all about blending, not settling for “that looks good enough” and most importantly, camouflage. A weird edge is sticking out, cover it up with a rock and/or bush. Take a look at this. Andre is a great designer and even better teacher (some say):

I watched that very same video (for probably the third or fourth time) before I started these falls. I've watched all of Andre's video tutorials multiple times, as well as any and every other designer video on YouTube and Twitch. I'm learning so much, and loving the challenge. Thanks for the input.
I played Scorched Horizon last night, and must say that you are also a great designer...

It's been a while since I posted an update, and it's also been a while since I did anything to the design of this course. I took a quick break from the designer, but I have some time off coming up here soon, so I should hopefully be able to provide more quality updates to this WIP (not that anyone is on the edge of their seat or anything...LOL!), and if I'm lucky, I will try to publish before the New Year - so I can have at least one course from 2019 in TGC2019...LOL!

Hole #4 has gotten some work...still needs some planting, but I'm nursing my meter, so I have to sculpt and surface the rest of my course before planting to intensively. As always your thoughts, gripes, comments, complaints, and suggestions are more than welcome: Edit: I should add that this is a very short (reachable) Par 4 hole, that has an heroic hazard forced carry into a downhill funnel onto the green with both Master and Pro clubs from the back (Blue) tees... I like the look of the hole and its setting. Big fan of a good short 4. My questions would be about the bunker placement - I'd argue the first should be on the left of the fairway (or just have no fw bunker), which would allow you to bring the water right up to the fairway as a much more dangerous hazard. I'd personally then put your greenside bunker short left to mean anyone not challenging the water off the tee has a bad angle and the bunker to contend with. mayday_golf83 would term it a quasi-Road Hole. It'd also protect against going for the green off the tee. I'd finally then bring the water right up to the right hand side of the green to protect that. Imo, those few little tweaks would really elevate the hole. Essentially, on a driveable par four, you need to make people think twice about pulling driver. Have the real danger concentrated around the green with easier ways to play the tee shot, but each yielding worse second shots. Hope that helps and keep up the good work!

Actually arielatom and I were having this debate on stream last night. Instead of a quasi-road, we see a Alps/Cape/Punchbowl mashup. My though would be to clear out those trees on the left, make that an ultra-conservative landing area and then slap a bunker on the left at about 200 yards. If you play safe, would be left with a blind 2nd to a punchbowl green. Atom made the point about not liking how the terrain on the cliff by the green runs away from the water, which I generally agree with, tough removing it would take away some of the punchbowl characteristics of the green. Would be something to fiddle with to see if a happy compromise could be obtained there.

b101, mayday_golf83 and arielatom: Thank you for your insights on this. I will take another look at the layout of this hole and take your advice into consideration. Anything to make this course (and me as a designer) better is very much appreciated. ~Drnk

Same land, totally different interpretations. Love it!

This is a very good point and something he helped me out with on one of my short par 4s a few months back.
If anything, it goes to show how many 'right' ways there are to do something. As long as the hole is fun to play and makes you stop and think about the possible options, you're on the right track. If it's 'pull driver all day every day' as Ben referenced (not saying this hole is, just IF it is), then it could probably use some tweaking.
