I didn't care much for the course this week. I don't typically criticize a course because I know a lot of time and effort go in to them and it is certainly way beyond me to be a designer. So I'm trying to phrase these comments around my preferences instead of spewing absolutes. Having Par 4s that are not reachable with out clubs isn't fun. Maybe you could hit a driver off the deck and get lucky (I don't personally ever do this though). I think with some better shots from me, I might have made it to a GIR on hole #4 once? No wind, 520 yd par 4 with a hill in front of the green. Would be interested if anyone actually made it on in 2 there. Maybe more of a course selection thing than anything - this just wasn't set up for beginner clubs with the distances in general in my opinion. My biggest issue was the greens. I don't mind that the speeds change from round to round. I kind of think that is interesting. But this felt like a TGC1 course with the beads and phantom breaks. I had a 6 foot putt that showed no break. I hit it with a straight line, and missed the hole by 6 inches. My return putt showed the beads moving from the opposite side. It happened multiple times throughout my rounds though. On one hole I made a really poor read (based on the beads) but made the putt because it dove into the hole at the end, despite no beads showing. It just contributed to me not trusting the course. Also don't enjoy fairways where you land on the far left and it still rolls into the rough on the right side. I just learned to land in the rough and let it bounce into the fairway on those. Not a design I enjoy though. Visually nice to look at. Wasn't fun to play (for me). I came in at -11 first round, which I was pretty happy with. My other rounds I had good back 9s and scored decent but no clue how it will compare to others. I beat Daniel though

I think I wish I'd just stopped playing after not getting a birdie on either of the first two holes and not bothered wasting my time by continuing.
I do fully agree that this felt like a course that punished you for hitting good shots and clearly wasn't designed to be played with beginner clubs.

I think I played the red tees for a practice round. When I looked at the tourney details, they were white, almost 400y longer, I thought oh... I felt like my initial post maybe was too harsh. You can still score on this course. It is long in places and I still don't like par 4 designs that you can't reach, but it isn't that big of a deal. I just took the par and moved on. Since we will never have a separate society for BCT (at least in this version of the game), it's going to happen periodically where the courses aren't optimal for beginner clubs. Overall, just wasn't my favorite track we've played.

My 2nd round was much better than the 1st round was. I managed to capitalize on the scoring chances that are available much better and my score showed it. Only one or two tap in birdies but I had plenty of approaches within 8-10 ft. which left some tough but makeable putts. Finished the day -10, so hopefully that will gain me some ground and make up for the -4 in the first round.

I had a good 2nd round at -14. Almost let it get away from me on the back 9 but had a couple of key par saves. Finished really well birdie-birdie-eagle. Not sure I can chase down Mark's great start though. My last two rounds weren't as good but they were better than my first. Awaiting Mark's riddle about the rest of his tournament

I beat Daniel though i can second this, yaters. i was way off on some of my reads that are usually pretty basic. probably an element of me not playing that great too, but a headscratcher nonetheless

In the spirit of staying spoiler free I'll just divulge that my 3rd round score was somewhere between +10 and -10. For the second time this week I hit a flag stick turning an over shoot into an easy birdie. And I almost to say it because I know I should appreciate it when I can get it, but three calm rounds in and I'm sort of missing the wind. Fingers crossed for some nice 20mph breezes in round 1 next week so I can get that thought out of my head.

Went ahead and finished off my week. Even eagled hole 72 to end on a high note. From tee to green this felt like my worst round as I never felt fully comfortable with my swing for some reason. Fortunately when on the green I felt completely comfortable and made up for the bad shooting to get there and tied my best score of the week when all was said and done.
I'm interested to see how this goes the rest of the week since at the moment I'm in 11th and that's with a -4 first round stinking me up. I was much better than -4 the rest of the week so I may have a shot at recovering from the bad start and actually finish well.
