I finished mapping Austin Country Club in OSM. The course is the host of the WGC - Dell Technologies Match Play Tournament held in late March on the PGA Tour, and it is a super fun course. Every hole presents a new challenge, and there is something special about the unique routing it has, starting up in hilly terrain rolling over deep gorges, then down into the lowlands, running alongside the Colorado River. This course is a much-needed RCR in the game, and I know the community would much appreciate anyone willing to do this course! Unfortunately I don't have tgc on PC so I can't do this one myself, but I would be more than willing to help anyone that wants to take this awesome course on! I believe the best LiDAR for this course will be found here: data.tnris.org/collection/0549d3ba-3f72-4710-b26c-28c65df9c70dThis was found off the NOAA site which directed me to the National Map, but I couldn't find the data there so I just looked it up and I was brought to that TNRIS site. However, I may be very well wrong, as I don't know much about what good and bad LiDAR is, so please use other LiDAR if that set doesn't work.

Thanks for doing the OSM. It looks like there is a version of this course already, but it's not Lidar based. I'll at least look into it and see if I might want to take this one on.

This is awesome of you to pick up and do the OSM even though you can’t do the LiDAR. Love this course. Lived in Austin for 8 years and always admired it.
Thanks for stepping up!

So I took a look at the Lidar data and it looks pretty good. Also the mapping of the course that you did is very good, thank you for doing that. The only thing I had to modify was to name the water hazards to be recognized by Chad's tool. The course looks really interesting (I've only seen it on TV) and the first version of the course that I generated looked promising. There are 2 issues that will have to be overcome to really make this course shine: 1) the lidar data and the OSM didn't align as well as I would like so I'll need to shift the terrain in the tool, which shouldn't be too difficult; 2) the initial rendering of the course took up slightly over half of the object meter. Considering all the planting and objects that would be needed, this could be a significant problem. I'll play around with it to see how I can remedy that situation. All in all, I think this course has great promise. I have a lot on my plate right now, so if I take this project on I expect it to take 3-4 months to get it done properly. I'll have some time this weekend to look into it more, but those are my initial thoughts.

Awesome thank you so much hoosierhoops24! No worries on this taking too long or whatever, take your time. I appreciate your help with this course so much!
And yeah I was slightly worried about the object meter, but I trust you'll be able to work around it well and do your best!
Thanks again!

Have you imported trees with Chad's tool? I find that it eats up way too much plant meter compared to planting yourself. You should not get more than max 1/3 of the plant meter taken up by the lidar data with proper masking and not importing trees imho, leaving plenty of room to plant the course.

Yes, I have done both with and without trees on my other projects and agree there's a big difference. I also think I need to redo my mask as well. I'm going to play with the settings a little more before I get started actually creating the course. Thanks again.

After messing around with the lidar data, OSM and chad’s tool for a few days to generate the best plot with minimal impact on resources, I’ve finally started work on the course. I have the championship tees in place and am planning on adding water next, followed by the planting. There are a considerable number of rocks that are an integral part of the look of this course and it’s going to be very time consuming to put those in one at a time. I hope to have some early pics to upload this weekend.
One final note: many thanks go to scoll3 for mapping this course out ahead of time. Your hard work is greatly appreciated and saved me a tremendous amount of time. I look forward to taking on Trinity Forest in the future once I finish this project and the new Dallas County lidar is published.

Thanks hoosierhoops24! It means a lot, and I’m glad my work doesn’t go unnoticed!
But seriously, you’re the one that deserves all the compliments... it takes a lot more time doing the course in the designer, and I know how tricky it can be!
I’ll always be here to help with mapping if anyone needs me. But yeah first I’m going to finish Trinity Forest, then probably the Old White TPC (greenbrier), and then also Grayhawk in Scottsdale for the Men’s D1 College Championship. Idk... there’s so many that I could do
Anyway, super excited for this course and feel free to keep us updated on your progress!

A good lidar version of the Old White (but also of the Greenbrier course ) would be simply a dream. If you need some suggestion, just about courses used on the most important Tours and Competitions, I would love to see also a lidar version of the Atlanta Athletic Club (it has some of the most nice looking par 3s over the water i ever played) and the TPC of Louisiana and San Antonio. To be honest..i would love also to have a version of the East Course at Oak Hill how it was before the renovation works. I played the new version and it seems to be a very good work (Dave Woods is also a great designer, for me. I love his work. The courses he creates are always really accurate), so is probably just a matter of habits, cause I was really in love with the old version. I understand the desire to change, to improve..but I can't say the course now is better than before. The hole 15 (or 14..i don't remember now exactly), was one of the most exciting medium par 3s I ever played..now without that little pond is just..normal. I don't know.. It would be exciting also to see a lidar of Kiawah Island and the 3 courses at Bandon Dunes..or, to stay always in Texas, the Cypress Creek course at the Champions Golf Club. And the Northwood Club. Ok ok..i stop here.

All those courses sound awesome! However I have to take it one at a time haha. Thanks for the suggestions.
Oh and also with Bandon all the courses have been mapped, it's just that the Lidar is dated and supposedly inaccurate. I'm hoping for new Lidar soon though so we can get all 4 (soon to be 5!) of those fabulous courses in the game! Maybe even the par-3 course too...

Here are some early pics showing the excavation/construction of Lake Austin. I’m already getting really into doing this course. Just hope I have enough resources and creativity to do it the way I envision it. uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191025/548f6268735d795fc661aca4972253d2.jpg[/IMG] Also scoll3, just FYI I have already mapped and created a test lidar version of Northwood Club on my hard drive. I have it on my radar to work on eventually.

I also have already mapped and created test lidar versions of the following courses that are local for me:
Dallas Athletic Club (Blue Course): 1963 PGA Championship Northwood Club: 1952 US Open Dallas National Golf Club: Phenomenal/exclusive Tom Fazio design Cedar Crest Golf Course: 1927 PGA Championship Trophy Club Country Club: the only course ever designed by Ben Hogan Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club: an interesting Arthur Hills design that I play regularly The Bridges Golf Club: another local course co-designed by Fred Couples that I play TPC Craig Ranch: host of a Web.com Tour Championship in the neighborhood where I live
Don't know how many of them I will ever get published, but I play them for fun every once in awhile.
