Pretty much out of contention after a dismal first round 😪 one day I’ll learn how to play this game Looks like you are only 3 off the pace. I went into the toilet 2nd round, but I'm sure the top dogs scored well. But I doubt you are out of it yet.

After holding onto it for almost 3 consecutive calendar years, albeit playing in only about a dozen tournaments over the last two seasons I've finally decided to hand in my Web/Korn Ferry card and chill down here. Went from CC-Z to Web back in the original TGC days and in the process got used to the mindless flick of the stick gameplay and stress free no fear of demotion that Web offered at the time. Once TGC2 came along and I had to focus on what I was doing combined with my lost competitive edge I just couldn't get into it anymore and focused on rangering instead. I played TGC2019 Q-School with master clubs and qualified to stay on Web, played a few weeks and still couldn't get back into it.
Been contemplating dropping to the BCT for a while but couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger until now. Looks like I have to wait until next week to officially be eligible to play here, but I'll play this week for fun anyway seeing that it's been nearly a year since I've played an event and I've never really used beginner clubs before. Therefore I'll still post my scores here but they're all unofficial so you don't really have to pay attention to them if you don't want to.
Played round 1 and the TGC memories came flowing back as it really does play similar to how it played way back then. Fortunately it looks like the growing pains I went through then won't have to be gone through again and I still remember some of what I learned back in the day. Finished the round at -11 and throw in an obligatory "I could have been -20, but.....".
Just kidding. I was never good enough to even think about -20.

Went ahead and played round 2 as well. After a bogey free round 1 this round was much less pretty including a very annoying 3 putt on the 18th which left me with a -6 for the round and -17 after two unofficial rounds.

In more unofficial scoring news I finished round 3. Was cruising to a decent -7 through 12 holes but then double bogeyed 13 and never really recovered from there as I ended the day at -6. Hopefully I get these stupid mistakes out of my game quickly because I know that I know better than this. Too much goofing around golf with not much serious golf in between isn't good for when I want to get back into tournaments. Case in point:I almost never loft or de-loft the ball while rangering a course. I just decide if I want to hit my approach shot too long or too short when I'm between clubs. I lost count of the number of times I had to remind myself to mess with the loft during this round.

To me, doesn't matter what clubs you use - it all comes down to putting and getting close to have the best chances at those putts. It is certainly part of my game that needs work, using the loft/de-loft. I just do it by 'feel' right now and sometimes I'm spot on and others way off. But...I don't ever practice so I'm only going to go so far.

Round 4 was only a -5 to finish -28 for the week. I did take advantage of the fact that I'm not entered into the event to mess around with the loft a bit more in round 4 to experiment and see the impact it would have in ways I would not normally do in a tournament setting. That probably cost me a couple strokes. Overall, I finished with the impression that I should be moderately competitive here. Doubt I'll make any serious challenges at the top of the board, but top 10's and occasional top 5's seem like a reasonable target to shoot for.

Well, it’s been a busy week of babysitting my grandkids, entertaining my mum who was visiting and celebrating my wedding anniversary.
With hardly any spare time it would have been easy not to play this week but one of my goals this season is to play every tournament and after squeezing in the first two rounds I wished I hadn’t (LOL) but then I started seeing other scores and realised it wasn’t just me who was struggling.
So, found time for the final two rounds and left my best until the very last with a -10 leaving me on -28, fingers crossed it will give me another top 15 this week. Below are the highlights of that final round….a real mixture of good shots, bad shots, lucky bounces & lucky putts on what proved to be a tough course which caught out a lot of players this week.

Cheers Mate, I'm getting there....learnt a lot this week about playing on fairway slopes that's for sure...lol. Glad you're enjoying the videos, hopefully there will be a lot more good rounds to show in the future. Good luck to you as well for the rest of the season.

Sean looks like he's 2 for 2. Nicely done again 👏 I just checked, looks like you have only ever played 3 tournaments and won them all. Are you really that new to TGC? Another impressive win though. Nobody was even close this week.

Thanks for the congrats everyone. john , I'm not new to TGC at all. What gave you that impression? I played from August of release, until early December last year. I did however, just come back to TGC around 1 week before season 6 started to work on my club mappings for beginner clubs (those I am new to). I'm a low level because, when I do play, most of my time is spent in off-line mode CHARTING ^.
