I want to get a laptop to do designing. I play no other games and need a system for this game only. How much computer do I need to get? Also, should I use a game pad or mouse? Thanks.

Oh, and the game and designer are built around a gamepad. I've designed with both, and prefer the gamepad because it's easier to make minute adjustments, and some controls seem to be a bit clunky with a mouse.
There are some designers who swear by mouse/keyboard and they do fantastic work, so, to each their own.

I second that in order for the game to run smoothly and quickly on PC (aside from LiDAR stuff and collab / file sharing, the main reason for designing on a PC is that it should be faster than it is on console) you need to get a pretty decent computer. I have a very similar laptop to what ErixonStone does and it runs the game very nicely. You want to make sure you get one with a good cooling system built into it, otherwise you may run into overheating problems / shorter computer life / random shutdowns to preserve the machine. No reason to spend any sum of money on a computer just to have it run poorly and burn itself up. NVidia 1050 is a good starting point as well. I have the 3GB 1060 version and it's all you really need and then some. The 1050 should be fine. Any decent i5 processor would probably do the trick as well, although a 4 core one (I think there are some 4 core laptop i5 processors now?) will have a lower total CPU load. My CPU % load is around 45-60% when running TGC / using the designer and it's an older 6700HQ unit. People say 16GB RAM is very good to have although I think you can get by with 8. Less than that is likely to bottleneck your system significantly. For comparison, I have two laptops: one is a Dell Inspiron that has decent specs but atrocious cooling and only integrated graphics so it runs just like any ol' 'craptop,' and the other is an MSI with similar specs to what you saw above. For LiDAR courses, the Dell was 10-12 seconds per 'click' and the MSI is 3-4. The same thing transfers to fictional where I get 3-4 seconds per click on the Dell on a brand new empty course file, and the MSI starts at well under 1 second.

I currently use PS4, however the lag is quite tedious. I have a pretty good MacBook Pro. 16GB Ram. I read a lot about PC designers. ... does anyone recommend using a Mac? Im guessing the game would be on Steam?

Im guessing the game would be on Steam? You would have to use "Bootcamp" or some other Windows emulator program (and also buy a copy of Windows as well) as the game will not run on a Mac. I know those emulators are slower than running Windows on a PC, but I don't know how much slower. Maybe someone here oor on the HB or PGA2K21 forums has an answer.

this.
Not sure how much slower but Bootcamp's drivers are far from ideal. If your macbook is a more recent model (probably 2017-2018 or newer), has two fans and a separate GPU (not just IGP) then it's probably worth a shot. Any spec below that might not be better than your current PS4 setup.

Im guessing the game would be on Steam? I design on PS4 which is quite clunky! I'm preordering a PS5 which is much faster than the PS4 with the SSD drive and processor in the PS5, hopefully it will fix the clunky problem. Equally as important, I'm a huge Mac guy! I have a 2020 27" 5K iMac which is mega powerful but I'm not putting any Windows stuff on it, nope, not going to happen... In closing, if the PS5 can't fix the clunkiness of the Designer, I will purchase a Windows Laptop, exclusively for designing courses, but still play the PGA TOUR 2K21 on on the PS5 because all my buddies play on PlayStation consoles. I'll miss designing on my huge 4K TV but, that's life!

One thing I’ll say is, I got an 8gb Dell inspiron with the GTX 1080 card and it struggles. I’ve ended up getting a full desktop PC with 32gb, 12 bit processor and a 3080 graphics card because the laptop struggled.
I’d suggest something pretty powerful if you go the laptop route

Does it not get pretty hot and get laggy after an hour in the designer?
