Gotta say that felt like far fewer putts per hole. A couple of chip ins and several chips close for one putts and I figured I was golden. Oh well, hope it's enough! Wow, what a phenomenal round! Congrats on winning the challenge title! Cheers, Jared & Kevin |

2021 NFL Quarterback Challenge RecapThe NFL Quarterback Challenge returned bigger than ever before after a 14 year hiatus. The Silverback Resort staypuft39 was the venue for this relaxed skills competition that pitted 31 NFL quarterbacks against each other in 4 events meant to test different aspects of a quarterback's skill. The participants were playing not only for pride, but also for an opportunity to earn the right to become a team captain in the upcoming Quarterback Rumble competition beginning in mid-March. In all, 29 of the 33 quarterbacks slated to compete were able to finish all four events: Speed & Mobility, Accuracy, Long Distance, and Read & Recognition. The first event, Speed & Mobility, saw the Broncos' Drew Lock rob4590 put up an impressive time of 7.39 seconds. But it was the Rams' Jared Goff up mup kupen nup, not widely-regarded for his foot speed, with a time of 7.3 flat that ended up with the first of his two event wins in the competition. Other highlights from the opening event were Matthew Stafford CGib2 and Tom Brady moverlock both turning back the hands of time with 3rd and 4th place finishes respectively and the debut of five new players in NFL Stableford whose participation added to the competitiveness of the event.  Accuracy separates the good quarterbacks from the great quarterbacks and the second event of the Quarterback Challenge affirmed this as the majority of the top 10 finishers in the Accuracy event led their team to the playoffs this past season. But it was a non-playoff competitor, Jared Goff, who upped his game for impressive back-to-back event wins as he held off a three-way tie for second between Baker Mayfield tcucci, Patrick Mahomes tylannister, and Aaron Rodgers. Because Goff already earned a captaincy with his previous event win, the runner-ups had a sudden death throw-off with Mayfield edging out Mahomes to earn the second team captain spot in the Quarterback Rumble. To show how close this competition was, 1st place was separated from 14th place by a mere six points. Top 5 after 2 events: 1st - Goff 87, 2nd - Lock 82, 3rd - Stafford 81, 4th - Prescott peiz11 78, 5th - Cousins 77.  Every NFL team wishes they can build a team around a big-armed quarterback who can throw the deep ball. Sam Darnold ddixjr509 possesses such an arm and he showed why he led the Jets to the top of the AFC East in NFL Stableford this past season by winning the Long Distance event with a throw of 67 yards. This was three yards further than the nearest competition the Chargers' Justin Herbert lawman1474 and the Vikings' Kirk Cousins awmacv. This was another closely contested event which featured a standout performance from the Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger SkyBlueBen after struggling in the first two events. Top 5 after 3 events: 1. Goff 149, 2. Lock 145, 3. Stafford 142, 4. Cousins 141, 5. Darnold 139.  To be a successful quarterback you have to be able to read a defense and recognize when your receiver is open downfield, sometimes in less than 3 seconds. The final event of the 2021 Quarterback Challenge, Read and Recognition, would not only test this skill, but decide the other four quarterbacks deserving of being named captains in the upcoming Quarterback Rumble. In some competitions there is an advantage in going towards the end. Kirk Cousins employed this strategy to perfection and won the Read & Recognition event win by 4 points over the Patriots' Cam Newton rubyrockk, who held the lead for most of the event. In the end, Captain Kirk's impressive point total was enough to win not only the event but also the Overall Championship. Vikings fans, you finally have a winner! Also, kudos to the four quarterbacks who qualified to become team captains based on their point total: Matthew Stafford, Cam Newton, Drew Lock, and Patrick Mahomes. We have about 5 minutes before the Draft begins, a couple of ground rules before we get started. There is a 10 minute clock for those who did not submit pick lists to me. This means that awmacv, tylannister, tcucci must contact the League Office by either posting their pick in the thread or via private message. In the event, a pick is not received, World Golf Ranking on TGCTours will determine the selection. Immediately after the draft, those who were not selected will be placed in a random draw to determine their team placement. With two available spots in the competition, there will be mystery players who will compete (these will be named later) that I will attempt to contact. If these players do not materialize, then either the average score of the remaining team members will make up the mystery spot or a suitable ghost who has played the course under the correct pin and tee will be used. This will be determined before the start of the week. With that said, for the thousands of members in the TGCTours community, and for those following along in this thread, let's get ready to rumble!  |
