Welcome to beautiful Mighty Oak Lodge & Ranch! A staple of Midwest living, Mighty Oak is an outdoorsman's paradise. Named for a giant, 1000 year-old oak tree found on the property, the resort sits on nearly 500 acres and was originally purchased in 1911 by former President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. An avid outdoorsman himself, President Roosevelt enjoyed the property until his death in 1919.
It stayed in the Roosevelt family for 32 more years before being sold to wealthy land developer, John Hitchens. In 1953, Mr. Hitchens established Mighty Oak Lodge & Ranch, a luxury resort catering to iron/copper mine tycoons and Midwest business magnets.
After years of profitable business, revenues began to drop as the guest experience grew outdated. In a last-ditch effort to save the resort, owners decided to plug into the Midwest's growing love for the sport of golf and enlisted the help of course designer, less than bread, to build a pristine golfing experience to attract more guests.
Mighty Oak Lodge & Ranch is pleased to announce the opening of their 7,000 yard par 72 championship golf course. Enjoy your round and feel free to partake in the many other activities Mighty Oak has to offer during the rest of your stay.

Course Book
Hole 1: Big Tree
Par 4
A beautiful opening hole to set the tone of what golfers can expect. Feel free to hit straight into a wide open fairway, or, if you are feeling bold, take on as much of the large fairway bunker as you wish to get closer for an opening early birdie opportunity
Hole 2: Just Forget
Par 4
After a relatively gentle introduction, golfers get a reality check on this long par 4 into an elevated green guarded by a deep bunker to the left. The green is narrow and runs off to either side so a well-placed approach is required. As the name suggests, you may want to just forget this difficult hole and look for birdies elsewhere
Hole 3: Pebble
Par 3
Inspired by the 7th hole at famous Pebble Beach Golf Links, the first par 3 at Mighty Oak Lodge & Ranch is very short and plays downhill to a tough green that slopes front to back
Hole 4: Window
Par 4
A tough tee shot awaits here with a pesky bunker occupying much of the available landing zone. Should conditions permit, clearing the bunker is possible as the tee shot plays slightly downhill. Otherwise the safe play is to stay back taking the bunker out of play. The approach to this hole gives a picturesque window view over the first fairway
Hole 5: Hammer
Par 5
The first par 5 at Mighty Oak Lodge & Ranch gets its name for being the longest hole on the course and also the hammer-shaped layup area. Get enough distance on your tee shot to clear the trees to the right for a possible eagle opportunity
Hole 6: Rock Point
Par 4
A very short par 4, Rock Point is the most interesting hole on the course with three different options off the tee. It is possible to make the green with driver or even fairway wood, however, the green is elevated, small, and is well protected by water and rocks in font and deep bunkers to either side. There are two layup options to either side of the green. The right side gets you closer to the green but is tougher to hit and the left side leaves a longer approach but is a safe way to ensure hitting the fairway
Hole 7: Big Fish
Par 5
The second par 5 features a huge 3-prong bunker in the middle of the fairway, giving plenty of options and risks off the tee. Should you carry the bunker, all that is required is a long iron to reach in two. Even if you lay up in front of the bunker on the right side, it is still possible to reach in two, but very risky and difficult. When viewed from above, this hole looks like a giant fish
Hole 8: Clover
Par 3
Named for its clover shaped green, this hole has tough-to-access pin positions and difficult slopes. Find yourself on the wrong clover leaf and this becomes a tough hole
Hole 9: Cut Line
Par 4
Wrapping up the front 9 is a straightway par 4 that plays an approach shot over water. The green of Cut Line features a strategically placed gully running through the middle of the putting surface. Distance control is the name of the game here as the front of the green slopes back toward the gully
Hole 10: Road Show
Par 4
The back 9 begins with a par 4 playing around a large bunker and trees. The green sits next to the main road in and out of the golf club so a missed putt will be on full display for those coming and going. We hope you are not stage fright
Hole 11: Grass Basin
Par 5
Another unique hole at Mighty Oak Lodge & Ranch, the green complex does not feature any bunkers but is instead surrounded by deep grass basins that may be even more difficult to make a save from
Hole 12: Roosevelt
Par 4
Named after the original owner of the property, former President Theodore Roosevelt, the house he constructed on the grounds is visible on the hill beyond the fairway. The house has been made into a historical museum for guests to enjoy. You will find one of the trickiest tee shots on the course here. Make sure you hit the fairway to have a birdie opportunity
Hole 13: The Rancher
Par 4
The second of three consecutive par 4s on the back 9, The Rancher is an uphill test that plays next to Might Oak Stables. In an interesting move, resort ownership decided to leave the stable grounds in-play for golfers should they hit an errant shot. They ask you please do not touch or feed the animals, however, especially not the prized Mighty Oak goats
Hole 14: Hitchens
Par 4
Rounding out the three consecutive par 4s, Hitchens is named after Mighty Oak's founder, John Hitchens. Two options off the tee here. You can go with driver to make for a closer approach, however, you must carry a bunker and the landing area is narrow. Or you can layup to the safe landing area to the left
Hole 15: Silly Complex
Par 3
The first of two back 9 par 3s, Silly Complex gets its name from the, well… silly shape of its green complex. A very unique putting surface features a large circle in the middle with the rest of the green winding around it with rough and bunkers dividing the two parts
Hole 16: Little Devil
Par 4
A short, downhill par 4 that is drivable, however, the golfer must carry onto the green as a deep bunker guards in front and the green falls away to three sides. Little Devil provides a hero shot for the ages, but can be your worst nightmare if you miss
Hole 17: Cascader Crusader
Par 3
The last par 3 features a beautiful shot over the cascading waterfalls in front of the giant oak tree. Distance control is key as the hole plays downhill with water in front and deep bunkers behind a small green
Hole 18: Home Stretch
Par 5
The finishing hole of Mighty Oak Lodge & Ranch is a risk/reward par 5 with water coming into play on the tee shot. With Master Clubs, you shouldn't have a problem clearing the river to attack the green in two as long as you are not faced with a headwind. If you must lay up in front of the river, the second shot from there is one of the most challenging to execute on the course if you go the aggressive route as the fairway landing area is split by a bunker and Mighty Oak's signature garden fountain. There is a bailout layup area across the river to the left if the aggressive shot is too daunting
