Lost a good 5 shots for no reason other than the designer wanting to make tricked out pins apparently.......................................................................................................................
There were a couple of dodgy ones (No 5 in Round 2 caught me out)
but
Exhibit A - you hit that way too hard on 187 greens
Exhibit B - That wasn't even close to carrying far enough.
I look forward to your post in US Open week if you thought this was tricked up

I honestly don't know why the first putt in A went so hard, probably just the game being the game... but what's odd is how the green slope within a 20 foot range is basically resembling a tent after a hailstorm. <shrug>
With B, I have a big problem with the second chip coming within a few feet and then completely rolling off the green. You'll notice the lie % got better after each attempt. But even with video evidence trying to make a point, I forgot it's a losing battle because there's no possible way a pin can ever be borderline unfair. My mistake.
And yes, I have played the US Open course. It is what it is. It'll reward the barely-deviating-downswinging-elite.
Mitch, they design these tricks to attempt to lower scores for the top DQers in the game. But in reality it widens the gap for those same players.
Actually Matt and I did it because we enjoyed the way the course played. I don't think either of us have designed a course like this with any top scorers or tour results in mind.
If designers are doing that regularly? Well...stop it. Design for fun playing courses. period.

I did say it was a nice course. For the most part that is true I just hate the pitfalls and feel they are unnecessary. My opinion of course. I guess I’ve fell in them too often this season and it’s taken it’s toll.

I don’t complain when I suck, I complain when the game sucks!
Death by 1,000 cuts. I just hate being penalized for a good shot. The 1-iron I hit into the par5 was perfect... and then that happens. So instead of having a makeable eagle putt, I make double-bogey. It is what it is. Even showing a video of what I felt was unfair design doesn't resonate with the elite designers, so I'm not sure what else will...
While I was a proponent of hiding the wind speed meter, now it's basically become a chore with very high winds. "Okay, the circle is more than half full, so it's at least 14. sh%$, it just filled some more... was it 15 or 16 before maybe? Is it now 18? Damnit it's moving across now. Oh sh%$ this is a par3 measuring 250 yards downhill 75 feet". Yea that was basically last week for 2 hours. Just sort of tiring... not fun. Maybe it's just me.

You can't really call it unfair design while your playing partner just misses an eagle and taps in his birdie for a FIFTY SIX. It's a legal pin, on the PGA Tour. You're looking for designer sympathy? Um, nah.

Turo was definitely a chore in the first round. My issues aren't about tempo or yardage calculation but the weird spins/hops that are a staple of these types of courses ever since TGC 1. In round 2 the 187 greens are what they are. We know that at that speed the ball is going to be wobbling 15 different ways to the hole before breaking hard at the hole 2x more than estimated. The difference between 181 and 187 speeds for me is often night and day but we all have to play the same conditions and we'll all get that extra lucky or unlucky bounce that can result in a 2 shot swing either way. What makes Turo more bearable than some of the other courses is the wider fairways that allow you at least a shot at most pins.
Haven't played the US Open course but if people are comparing it to TGC 1 courses, those were the ones where the courses were designed for medium green speed/firmness but were tricked up by setting all settings at max so a ball that hit 30 yards in front of the green would some how roll through 60 yards of green and end up in the fairway on the other side. It often was just impossible to hold some of those greens with any mid-long iron.

Demonondalinks: your tempo window for perfect is smaller each level you go up there for making it harder to obtain a perfect tempo consistently
