Managed to get a lot done today and the to do list is getting ever shorter. I'll pop some pics up tomorrow morning, but today I managed to finish up holes 14, 17 and 18. I am really pleased with 18 in particular. I've also redesigned hole 3, the 125ft downhill par 5, which had somehow just ended up being boring and put in a lot of work on the clubhouse area overlooking 18. So, in terms of what's left:
- Go back to the first few bunkers I did and redo them now I'm getting the style down - Plant tee box areas - Some more work on playability on 5 and 16. - Plant holes 5, 6, 15 and 16 (the four holes I just know will be difficult as neither the lighting or plot are giving me huge amounts of help). - Tweak greens/pins - Check out of play areas for planting / just not looking bare.
So, yeah - nearly there. Certainly, holes 1-2, 8-14, 17-18 are totally finished and need no more work, but may get a few bits of touch-up. Played a round on pinset 2 this afternoon and managed just -1. It's a fun pinset that you either need to hole ten footers on or hit miracle approaches.

As promised, some (relatively poor quality) photos of how the remaining holes are shaping up: The driveable par four 13th hole from a couple of fun angles. A must-birdie hole, which is easy if you lay up to the right spot, but tough if you get in the wrong place from the drive: The par three 14th. Going for a more minimalist approach here. Not sure whether I'll add in a bit more colour; I thought it was a nice idea to have one hole with a real 'heart of the forest' feel: The long par three 17th. Again, a hole where the surroundings are doing all of the work: The third hole remodel has been a big job and took a lot of playtesting. What was originally a dead straight par five is now a hole offering angles and a couple of very clear choices. I came to the conclusion that, if I was going bold enough to go downhill 150ft, I might as well make the hole really big (this one is very rjwils30's Falling Water inspired). You can reach the fairway low left to give that angle, but it leaves a brilliant heart-in-mouth feeling as you realise the ball is pretty much dropping vertically down when it lands. Alternatively, you can hit over the trees for the speed-slot, but chance a sidehill lie if you don't absolutely nail the tee shot, or play straight to the plateau on the right for a look straight down at the green. A really fun hole: View from the top right approach: View from behind where you'd play the riskiest approach to. Shows the danger - if you find the water, you are back to the tee: And looking back from the green (how this doesn't look absolutely absurd is beyond me, given that the fairway is at about a 30 degree angle - it took a lot of sculpting): Finally, the 18th has taken up a lot of my time. The eagle-eyed will spot a glimpse of my entry into the Custom Clubhouse sub-contest, but you aren't ready for that yet . Again, a 'go big or go home' hole. A par five finisher is a bit of a cliché on these forums, but I wanted to produce one where you had to decide whether going for it in two is worth it in terms of where you find yourself for your third - it's easy to find the green, but very hard to two putt from some of the typical landing positions:

Inching ever closer. Holes 5 and 6 have been the toughest by a mile to plant. 6 has the blind tee shot and a lot of open space, which could shine, but took a lot of effort, whilst 5 has just got lots of darkness to contend with. 5th hole. I opened up the lighting a bit so that I did have some chance with the planting. Still want it to feel like you're in the heart of the forest before hitting the gorge holes. It's a long hole where par is easy, but birdie well-earnt. Green/Approach: Hole 6. Blind tee shot allows multiple angles to facilitate an approach to the right part of the green, but it's pretty difficult to miss the fairway with a 2 iron. Driver can be used, but you may not want to be too close with some pins. --- Need to save a few screenshots for the proper launch thread, but I am now finished with all 18 holes. Now just need to do some heavy roughing on a couple, tweak some bunkers and greens/pins then generally tidy up and playtest. Very happy with how this is going and should be ready to launch on the 1st

Love seeing your updates mate. Must be starting to feel pretty good now that you are so close? Course is looking beautiful. Really digging the environment you have created. That 5th hole looks super. I love having a shadowy hole or two on the course for contrast.

Yeah, it's really nice to be getting into the tweaking phase. I'm really proud of the course and think it'll be useful feedback - it's pretty much all turning out the way I wanted it to, so the criticism will be good as to what more experienced players/designers make of it. I think I'll find the difficulty level the hardest to gauge, particularly with the greens. Hope yours is going well, too!

Yeah I've been wondering about difficulty levels too. Some plays I think everything is too easy and others quite the opposite. Hoping to reach a happy medium.
You got any Easter eggs out there?

Yeah I've been wondering about difficulty levels too. Some plays I think everything is too easy and others quite the opposite. Hoping to reach a happy medium. You got any Easter eggs out there? Exactly the same for me. I've shot -10 with no issues and struggled to -1 on different pins with different winds. I think I'll do quite a bit of playtesting this weekend before I settle on the conditions and pins I suggest. No Easter eggs yet, but I want to put some wildlife in if I have the meter. I've got about 20% left, with only some minor touch-ups left on a few holes, so should be doable. I don't think I know the community well enough to chuck goats everywhere and make it work lol. To do list now looks as follows - I'm away until Friday, so have just been scrutinising a few screenshots of the holes as well as my notes from last playthrough: 2 - planting at back of green 3 - planting at back of green 7 green - add more interest with slopes 11/12 tee - add some white speckly grass 12 - tidy planting at back of green 13 - lhs, some gorse midway? 15 - heavy rough by green and transition to green. false front too severe? 16 - tee: looking back 18 - tree on RHS of fairway Playtest all pins and wind directions Playtest from green/red tees with Beginner and Pro clubs Front of clubhouse - cars and road in Add wildlife Like I say, pretty much there now!
