After seeing the number of people that were going to use the Delta theme I went into my design session today with a change in my original idea. I wasn't having any luck setting up my "North Shore of Lake Superior" plot of land so I went back to my original idea which is utilizing the Delta theme to create an American Links style course. I am also drawing inspiration from my favorite local holes to sprinkle throughout the course and the first of such elements is the famous "Snoopy Bunker" found at Highland National in Saint Paul, MN. After building out 80% of my first hole I knew the design aesthetic I wanted to go for, and it's inspired by a local park that has some great rolling hills and wildlife as seen in the image above. From there the name was pretty evident to me so it was just a matter of creating a logo and branding the course to help bring the ideas I have for the course to life.

I like where you're going with this.
But it would help me sleep at night if you move your fairway spline so snoopys foot isn't in it.

I was too lazy to do it the night I made the bunker and Snoopy took up a lot more space than I thought he would, but Snoopy is now contained by the rough. I'll post an updated pic later tonight,

Did some re-routing, what was #2 green is now #4. A whole new #2 was built, a new #3 was laid out as well with the previous #3 becoming the #5. Ruined my #1 green when sculpting hole #2 but I'm somewhat happy with how it's been rebuilt. Here's a screenshot from the front bunker on the short Par 3 #2

Made some lighting decisions yesterday, and at least for now this is what I decided on.

So after planting about 4 holes to fit the idea I had in my mind for how I wanted the course to look it became apparent it wouldn't work how I envisioned for a couple reasons. First the draw distance on grass sucks and it really put me off the look of the course, and second my plant meter was approaching halfway after only 4 holes of basic planting. For reference the two pictures below are something like I envisioned with large areas of long fescue grass. In large part this was part of the vision because at the park where this course is fictionally located is also where my wife and I took engagement and anniversary photos and driving into the park area in the fall are big rolling hills or long brown grass and that was stuck in my head as being the look. However after deleting my planting in this style and then feeling uninspired I decided to go drive around the area to look at the local flora. I found myself first noticing how the grass and trees looked as they rose up the giant hills on both sides of the freeway, however I didn't want to stop on the side of the road to take pictures and trying to snap pictures while driving at highway speeds would have been irresponsible and dangerous so instead I headed over to the park where my course is fictionally set and got a bunch of good photos to use for inspiration, here are my favorite pictures that I took. One thing I noticed straight away was much greener everything was than I envisioned which opens up using sunken trees and bushes to combat the poor draw distance of grasses, as well how there were clumps of grass that were huge. This clump was 4.5'-5' tall which was on the extreme side of what I saw but seeing this I knew I would be able to layer in some "Jurassic" Sized grass Just showing the types of vegetation found and how it looked with covering up the base of trees How things looked around the edges of the pond/lakes The buildup of grass to bushes and trees as it moved up the hill, stood out as a great way to add depth to a course and to utilize some rolling hills between fairways to give life to the course rather than a flat open feel. Trying to show the large rolling hills that were covered with the long brown grass as I remembered them. It looked like they had recently mowed the grass down as it was laying down in large clumps. The peak of the hill behind the car is about 30' higher than where I was standing. Some cool rock wall work which I'm pleased to see as I utilize a feature like this already around the front bunker on Hole #2 So armed with these pictures and a renewed idea for how to plant the course its time to buckle down, finish routing and surfacing my holes and I can use all my reference images for planting the course in a realistic manner.

Quality post - love the thought you're putting in to this and I'm sure the course will turn out looking great. Saw a bit of your stream the other day and the holes look like they play nicely as well. KUTGW!
