Just a quick update. The spline trick worked. I just wasn't aware that I could unfill a spline but once I did that it was easy to create the effect I was looking for. Thank you to everyone that offered help. It's so great that everyone in this community is so eager to help others.

I'm sure this has been covered before, but for the life of me I can't find it. Is there a way to put rough around the outside of a bunker that's in a fairway that was created with splines (ie, filled in)? Edit: ignore - Tapatalk randomly brought up a post from months back!

I'm probably being dim here but why do you need to do a figure of 8 around the bunker? Why wouldn't you just do a normal spline of fairway around it?
I'm definitely curious as I need to create heavy rough around a few bunkers in the middle of fairways on my latest course! In my head I thought I'd just need to manually brush it in so if someone can explain the figure of 8 method and why it works that would be great. Thanks

The "figure 8" method eliminates the possibility of inadvertently leaving small patches of rough in the fairway. This type of flaw was fairly common in TGC2 where there was no function to auto-fill splines.
The problem is that the red-brush trick does not work with filled splines, so you have to manually draw your fairway around the bunker, or use shapes to fill the spline, or navigate your fairway spline(s) around the bunker.
