I thought the course was an absolute joke. Nowhere in the California hills would you see drops of 80 feet, totally unrealistic! Then add to that, every time I hit a shot without looking, it went into the rough! Also every putt on these greens that is not hit at the hole....misses! Total farce.

Then add to that, every time I hit a shot without looking, it went into the rough! Also every putt on these greens that is not hit at the hole....misses! Total farce. Results were not my reasoning if that is meant at me. I played poorly, but I have done that many times in the past. I am not coming from a place of frustration or anger, etc. about my play with my remarks. Did not swear, throw a controller, etc. once in my 36 holes. or anything like that. I could see many (not all) of the traps laying in wait out there. They are simply too frequent and convenient for it to be believable is all I am saying.
I could have left off the comments about how it was visually a great course if I wanted to just bash at the course for the sake of it. I could have also used the term 'gimmicky', but I thought I would actually be a bit descriptive because I thought that is what designers wanted.
Seeing now that this is a collaboration course makes a bit more sense and may be what takes away from it. From one designer you get ideas that flow together towards a goal. Here it seems like someone did X, another did Y, and another does Z. They all may be well done things, but when you throw too many ingredients in a pot and cook it, sometimes it doesn't taste very well. Too much can be a bad thing.
The point is that some of those things like elevation changes/drops/rises, a fairway split/cutoff, the green running away from a pin, and bunkers blocking the front of a green... they would happen naturally or can be put in with the landscape. But having the elevation drops coincide perfectly with a mound right before a fairway or the cutoff of a split fairway AND have the elevation change back within a the same hole multiple times throughout a round with a tucked pin and green runoff all in the same hole or two? That is too forced. Manufactured and not flowing play wise.
Still looks great, though, and the vibe of the Hollywood Hills were an instant feel.

My tournament in a nutshell.
I wanted to like this course, but I just felt it was too gimmicky. There is so much luck involved that it just got boring and mundane by my fourth round.
The driveable par4, I'll use that as an example. I believe in R2, I hit the fairway embankment to the right of the green and somehow kicked and rolled straight to the pin leaving only a few feet away from an ace. In r3, I think I used a 3-iron off the tee into a hard wind. Any less club, and I risk not carrying to the fairway. Then my ball bounds down 70+ yards into rough surrounding a pot bunker.
Hole 11, pin 2? I hit a beautiful gap wedge that landed a few yards short and then proceeded to roll off the green. As a matter of fact, I found myself playing very short clubs into very long pins (might have been hole 13 or 14 in r4? 8 iron to a 186 pin uphill and it was "too much club")... and riding slope for 20+ yards and buzzing the pin as I would eventually end up on the heavy rough of the collars. This just got to be silly - what's the point?
The layout has good bones but it just was a circus on the greens/approaches.
Hopefully next week's course stays as is so we can actually practice one Augusta this year (anyone remember 2018)?

That penultimate putt ^ was amazing though CuseHokie! And looking at that PS4 leaderboard maybe my performance this week wasn't as horrendous as I thought. Was actually considering taking a break from PGA because of so many errors this week (and just playing ultra sim instead since I enjoy that so much more), but seems like everybody was struggling at Texafornia. Considering how badly I thought I played, the fact that I have an outside chance of a top 20 seems ridiculous to me.

This course wouldβve been much better on the Fall schedule. Thatβs when the Texas State Fair is.

Lmao how am i still tied for the lead after being -7 thru 8 in round 3 then found out id lost semi on back 9 matchplay result. I hit the roof and played the last ten in a @!$# you mindset. And hit it all over the place with minimal thought i dogged it finish -8. Rd 1 was ok if not spectacular. R2 was better and rd3 scored ok but left a lot out there. Magnolia tour for the masters. Lol absolute dross not the most accurate of courses.

After getting plugged in an impossible lie and the lack of shits given after this event occurred, I brought myself out of contention early. -18 through 2.
Have to stay motivated though, gotta make sure to stay ahead of Larry!

Irrelevant i feel Tim, Unfortunately he's not inside the Top 110 on Fed-Ex points list, and as far as i can see not even showing on the points list at all, plus i don't think a past winner's invite is on the table either.

If Sloaner was worth a Sponsors Invite a couple of years ago I'd say the Machine definitely is
