Over the last week there has been a good deal of discussion on the PGA about the cut line, who the winner will be and what the winner will shoot (thanks to Taste for generating a lot of this buzz). It got so heated that Steve2Golf was virtually willing to wager his house on the final scores of this weeks event. (interestingly he may set the mark himself this week as he currently sits in 2nd place). So rather than have people lose virtual fortunes and drive cross country to settle disputes with fist-a-cuffs, we decided to organize and legitimize the passion for prognostication. So without further ado, here are the rules of the contest that will begin week 7 @ Bavaro. The initial choices will be posted late on Thursday and all choices will need to be made by midnight on Friday night (before the tournaments are released). Rules: - Each week, Steve and Nic will release the Over/Under for winning score, Over/Under for Cut line, and an odds board on about 6-8 winners for the event. This odds board will also feature a "field" option. This will be released in the PGA Tours thread with a similar headline to this thread.
- Each PGA tour member will be allowed one pick from each of the 3 categories (winning score, cut line, tourney winner)
- Choices should be posted as responses to the thread for each week. Any updates or changes after Friday at midnight (tournament commences) will be ignored.
- Points will be announced each Monday and tallied throughout the year.
- No obligation to participate, miss a week, no problem, but you might fall behind.
Odds Boards: Odds are displayed as (X-Y). Y is your wager (1 choice per). X is what you win (plus your wager (X+Y)
- The odds board for winning score will be a single number, generally in a .5 increment to avoid "pushes". This week the over/under winning score might have been -59.5. If you believe the final winning score will be below that number you choose the under. If you belive it will be -60 or higher you would have choosen the over.
- The odds board for Cut line will be a bit more dramatic. A cut line will be set by Steve and Nic. For this week it might have been -17 under. You will 5 total choices on the cut line.
-17 under (1-1), -16 under (2-1), -18 (2-1), Greater than -18 (3-1), or Less than 16 under (3-1). The cut line set by Steve and Nic may change, but one above or one below will give you a 2-1 odds, and 3-1 if you go even further from the cut line set. - The winner of the event will be a series of people, plus a field option, and odds for such an occurance. This week an example might have been:
Scott Doyley 2-1 Tyler Harris 3-1 Jeremy Blaylock 4-1 James Gemmill 6-1 B Beaumont Thomas 6-1 Dale Burger 10-1 Job Fickett 100-1 Field (any other player ) 1-1
Scoring:
- The current standings in the form of "Kredits" or K will be updated each Monday.
Let the prognostication commence. Look for our first "line" on this upcoming weeks action (wk 7 at Bavaro) late Thursday or early Friday. We are waiting as long as we can to see what the fields look like and to get practice in on the course to get "accurate" lines.
Good Luck
Steve and Nic

I would not encourage taking me to win at any odds. Thanks for the generous 100-1 though!

Just to point out your odds add up to like 166%! I wouldnt be betting at your bookies! If going to do this I feel you need to make sure your odds round out to 100%. At 166% there will not be 1 person who ends the season in profit and that is virtually a statistical fact!

I think I like this idea enough that I may integrate it into the site :-)

You are giving 3 kredit choices each week for free, so fewer will be right, but noone can actually lose.

how about 5 credits (or kredits for you euros, guess you guys have carma?) and we get to use those 5 on the three choices, so we could actually lose, especially when taking jobs! for example, if we wanted to bet all 5 on jobs, and not bet the rest, we could, and if jobs actually won, we would be big winners.

I dont mind that, but when we start allowing people to move money around in groups it becomes harder to manage. We are looking to add a feature without killing ourselves time wise.

or what about, we can use the kredits that we won in previous weeks?, and we just start with the 3 given each week? i can see how the extra work is involved, so if you want to keep it simple, i dont blame ya, just tossing out ideas.

we started talking about everyone having 100 or something, but you know people would just bet them all the first week then whine about not having them... plus if you are allowed to use prior credits it would not keep it as close for as long... I am open to whatever is fun for all, so we will give it a few weeks and can then talk tweaks. The reason we are using "kredits" is to be able to say I have 18K since we wanted to use money but thought it would get messy with the actual money lists...

10-1 for me...I don't think I've been playing to my potential...but I'm going to blame my glutes not activating.
