May 5th 1989 We had an F4 tornado come through Upper Cleveland County which is where I now live... The tornado killed several which included my wives great aunt and uncle... The local news out of Charlotte flew over and created the video below the spot where my wives great aunt and uncle lived and their home used to sit in the spot on the video around the time of 1:19
The winds threw her uncle like 200 yards and aunt around 900 yards from where their home stood
As the crow flies this spot is about 4 miles from my current home.. the winds were so strong it took the north side of a large barn that sat on my property
Scary stuff
I just saw this post. I remember that tornado, Terry. Was that on 18, where you are talking about, just north of where Redbone Willys is now?
I was out of Gardner Webb, but my sister still went there, and we drove through there on our way down for something right after it hit. If I'm not mistaken, it may have been for her graduation.
I am very sorry you had loved ones involved.

Hey Josia
It actually started south of Redbone Willys on the same side of the road, it blew through all the houses there, blew the big house behind Rebones down completely ended up crossing over 18 and headed on north on the east side of 10 but yes sir that was the same tornado
We actually had a small F1 come within a mile from my house a year ago September, and it traveled just west of us, landed up around hickory airport and blew over some planes and did a lot more damage up there
the one in 1989 is the worst that has hit around here in my lifetime, I was 17 years old when that hit.... My wife was about 11 when she lost her great aunt and uncle in that one

I know of that one also, Terry. My sis lives in Longview, now, (near the airport) and I remember because we heard about it and called to check on her.
Last year, we had two come through on a Sunday evening, about 20 minutes apart. We were in church, and everyone's phones went off with the warnings (which seems to work much better than relying on sirens, right?) But we all moved to the fellowship area which is downstairs, but still above ground, and waited for the first one there. We were safe, but another church in the area got hit, while people were hunkered down in their basement area. Thankfully no lives were lost. After the first one, since church was over, and we knew we had about 20 minutes till the next one came, my wife and I went on home, because my basement is actually below ground level, and we felt safer there.

Last night I sat for a couple hours watching the Storm View Live team on Twitch. They were chasing out in Nebraska and Colorado. I didn't catch any of the funnel footage, I was too late, but the storms that I did see were very powerful and amazing.
When I tuned in, Nathan was running from a hail storm, and David was IN it, took shelter under a gas station awning, and it was golf ball sized hail with about 2 inches of it on the ground.
Later they found a cell where lightening was hitting about 300 strikes per minute, it was pretty amazing watching it.

The Memorial Day tornadoes in Ohio were some scary sh%$... out in Hilliard where I live now there wasn’t much tornadic activity but the EF4 (recently upgraded from EF3) that went through the Trotwood & Dayton areas was only 7ish miles northeast of where I used to live in Kettering. All of my friends and family in the area are okay, but I’m still a bit shocked that it hit so close to home. Even one single dollar will help... The Dayton Food Bank is a great place to donate if you would like to: thefoodbankdayton.org/donate/

For three days earlier this year we had -24 F temps in Minneapolis. Windchill topped at -50 F.
Then two days later it was nearly 40 F. Nice little 60 degree temperature swing.

We are getting extreme rains at the moment.
It rained 2 inches yesterday, and I emptied the rain gauge this afternoon, and as of right now its FULL. Thats 2 inches yesterday, and FIVE INCHES more in the last seven hours.
I'm not gonna go out there and get soaked just to empty it again, but its supposed to rain all night and all day tomorrow also.

Wanted to dig this thread up again. This summer in the Twin Cities area (Minnesota) we had many tornado warnings and a few touchdowns. There was one in August where the wall cloud past over our house before dropping an EF1 or 2 in the city about 10 miles NE of us.
Still haven't seen one in person. I would like to as long as it's in an open field and I'm a long ways away.
We actually are on the northern edge of tornado alley. Most think of tornado alley as Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri region and they definitely get hit the hardest but it actually extends all the way up into Minnesota. I know there have been a couple F5s in southwestern Minnesota but not for a long time.

I thought i would give this a bump. I have researched and watched many videos of the 2011 Super Outbreak (tornadoes) and have become extremely fascinated. I was wondering if any of our members here were living in Alabama or the surrounding states while this was all happening. Such a rare storm setup back then with so many tornadoes over that period in April. Thanks for any info. I don’t live in that area but I have looked into this outbreak with fascination as well. Typically only see maybe 1 EF5 each year (many years none) but there were FOUR on the same day in this system.. it was really tragic
