Ok, I've spent some time looking around and compiling notes on each of the templates listed and started thinking about which ones I might want to use. One that I like the sound of but still can't really get my head around is the Lido template. It sounds like this template was based off a hole of the Lido Golf Club that doesn't exist anymore and features three distinct options off the tee surrounded by water... Anything more on the Lido template? A Lido hole is a hole with disconnected fairways to choose from (usually three like the original) but I think the main idea was the choice off the tee on which way to go and what risks to take. Here's the hole in question... Also my complete list of templates with brief but blunt descriptions of every template. blog.tgctours.com/template-hole-architecture/

I played your course Raynor's Ridge not too long ago and that kind of launched my interest in the templates. Your sculpting there is superb. I'm currently working on a template course, haven't posted a WIP yet. It may wind up being my cc contest course.

Loving this the more I get into it. Really gives you a good pallet to pick and choose from instead of sitting and scratching your head with the freedom to still be creative and make it your own

Does this mean that Valhalla #7 is a Lido template?

Does this mean that Valhalla #7 is a Lido template? Of sorts. It doesn't have the three sections but I wouldn't say that it needs to. Just having the double fairway option is good enough I'd say.

As far as Redan Green sites go, this one is pretty wild.....

A little disappointed in myself for not discovering this earlier but there is a Seth Raynor course in my area. Unfortunately it is a private country club so most likely will not get the opportunity to play it. Check it out: www.mvccgolf.com/the-golf-course/

Wanted to share this pic with this thread. Raynor's 15th at St. Louis Country Club, "The Crater". The course has 5 Par 3s, the usual 4 and then The Crater.

Joe can you give me the proper pronunciation of Biarritz? I keep saying "Bye-are-its" but I doubt that's right. I watched the Fried Egg video on youtube and he said it like "Bee-are-its" or "Beer-its"

I watched the Fried Egg video on youtube and he said it like "Bee-are-its" or "Beer-its" I suppose the true way to pronounce it would be how the French say it... and I don't know the answer to that. I pronounce it "bee-are-its".

Not been on the forums for a long time and stumbled onto this little gold mine . Loving the architecture discussions. As a non classically trained golf course designer , I don't think I know many of the proper terms for these templates so found a lot of this interesting to read. I'm very early on in the thread catching up... I think I'll be a while before I get through it all. Great stuff though. Always enjoy talking hole strategy. Not sure what my absolute favorite hole template (as I said I don't know all the terms yet). But the pinnacle for me is a hole where the best choices are very different depending on tee and hole position, weather and player strengths. It is always an aim of the holes I build, a well designed green can really change where you want to be depending on the pin. I know Lido kinda fits this in many ways, but I don't think I've ever played one in real life. I much prefer links style courses/holes, where you have to negotiate undulations and small but deadly bunkers
