I asked this question before the Tour started, and didn't really get a solid response. So now that were pretty well into it I wanted to check and see what your ideas were on cutoffs for the tournaments. I must say I was pretty amazed I even made it in to the PGA Tour at all, but I somehow made it in. So far though I've barely even made the cut on one of the tournaments I've played in. From what I've seen so far you need to average around -6 to -8 for the first two rounds, now thats just to make the cut. Now so far I've played all 4 rounds in each tournament, but I'm beginning to think those last two rounds are only being played pretty much for practice. So is my estimate for making the cuts pretty accurate ? Is it worth playing the last two rounds If you can't maintain the -12 or -16 for the first two rounds ? I only ask because there will be quite a few players coming up from the web tours soon. So do they eventually push the players out who consistantly don't make the cuts, who are playing now ? Maybe we should have something setup to drop players out of a tour If they consistantly don't make the cut ?

The rules state that if you miss three consecutive cuts, you can request a voluntary demotion. Just have to email commish@tgctours.com.
As far as your assessment on the scoring, that seems fairly accurate thus far but the numbers will obviously vary over time based on the difficulty of the course.

If you didn't see -- you can request a demotion at any time after three missed cuts. Just email commish@tgctours.com with the subject "Demotion Request".

Week two back at the Sony I shot like -24 for the tourny. This week will now be my third straight top 10 in a row. Anything can happen if you practice.

But get some practice rounds in for next week and bring your calculator. Yeti National, or as l like to call it "The Hairy Armpit" will test you. I played it in 16mph winds and shot a +3. It was a nightmare.

I'm a little worried about that track as I've played it 5-6 times in practice so far and have never had winds below 8mph. Not to mention that I don't think I'm a huge fan of the layout. We will see though. Hopefully I can get lucky with the wind.

Doyley shot -10 in 15mph -- insane. I shot -8 in 7mph and it felt like a 57!

I broke par there last night in 16MPH, was fairly happy, but left several makeable putts.
Tim: to confirm, it is 3 missed cuts in a row? Correct. Not 3 overall. I would have missed my 3rd this week, but as noted above was not about to leave the PGA. My goal is 50% cuts... I will get there...

I'm not sure I would take a voluntary demotion, but I wasn't sure If you automatically got demoated If you missed a particular amount of cuts. Yes practice all I can, but just not sure If I want to be writing things down. Yes I'm sure thats the best way, but I'd rather be able to judge things on my own, sort of off the cuff you might say. Its when you get holes below you where you would normally dropd down a club or two, and then get faced with 16 mph winds. Those would probably be the best times to write something down. Or even the best place to land your ball on the green, makes a huge difference. At the same time though I get a real kick out of hitting a bunker and then see If I can scramble and make par. Nope that won't help me make the cut, but in the end part of that scrambling does make you a better player, at least for getting out of trouble. But as you said writing everything down is probably the best ay to score low, just not sure If I want to go that particular route.

I'm not sure I would take a voluntary demotion, but I wasn't sure If you automatically got demoated If you missed a particular amount of cuts. Demotions are voluntary - you can stay all season missing cuts. To answer Nic's question - you have to miss 3 consecutive cuts. To be honest, the demotions are more for people missing the majority of cuts. If someone is making 50% of the cuts and hits a bad stretch for 3 weeks, I likely won't grant the request. It wouldn't be fair to the tour below to demote someone that can make cuts on their current tour.

So my question still remains. Should you just play 2 rounds, see If you make the cut, then play the last two ?

Totally up to you. Those last two rounds will never hurt you (they get wiped if you miss the cut). I like to play two, wait til cuts then play two, mainly to see how I stand. Usually that is outside the cut, but still...
