Did my R1 at Zilker last night.
Like, others, I'm a big fan of scenery, over the municipal style courses. At first I was grumbling, saw those wide open fairways and thought that this was going to be too easy. Then I played the first hole. LOL Man, that green is small!!!!
So, for us master users, be prepared for more of a challenge than you think! Sure, with the fairways everywhere, you can recover easier, but some of those greens are really hard to hit, if you make the masters users 'slightly off but oh its going 45 degrees to the right approach shot!'
EDIT: Actually, for me, that should be 45 degrees to the left. I tend to get overexcited on my approach shots, especially after a great drive, so I accidentally hit it too fast, which pulls it off to the left every time.

Just finished my 4 rounds. Decided to play all 4 with pro clubs, I think that is my level for now.
Like others have said the course really grew on me and I was actually enjoying the challenge of it!
Round 3 is a real battle tough pins and windy.
Finished on -8 fairy happy but definitely left shots out there.
Good luck everyone

I like this course, decided after a top 25 to actually have a practice round and my oh my it paid off here. -10 R1 -8 R2 then came the horrid windy R3 which was tough as hell, scrambled round pretty much every hole for a R3 -1 and R4 -7 was back to lighter winds. The course can be got at though so big numbers under are possible.

I am only thru 3 rounds. Went -6,-6,-8. Played best the higher winds in round three for some reason.

Feel sorry for beginners on this course postage stamp greens with brutal access I found it ok with master clubs but novices will be breaking pads.
Decent track.
-4 -4 -1 think had a couple of snowmen -9 should of been -14 finally figured out how to play.
hopefully my stay will be short

Win is off the cards with my third round, I'm hoping for a top 10 and another promotion mark. You carry on the way you have you'll be above me :-( I was literally scrambling like crazy for pars in the winds of the third round, don't know how I got under par!

Practiced on the week 4 course. Very interesting. 7,000 yd par 70. A lot of elevation changes, 20-30ft on some shots. Very long par 4's with thin fairways unless you want to hit less than driver and be even farther back for second shot.

Conditions for next week are mostly soft and slow so long approaches shouldn't roll out too much.

Through Round 2 and I did like the course better second go around. At first I wasn't too much of a fan, but there are options and some strategy to be found for sure especially given the small greens.

First tourney with Pro clubs +21 but did see improvement and blame myself for bad shots. Still disappointed with the last 2 courses and hope to see more scenic - realistic courses in the future.

What a disaster finished +15 after 4 rounds despite a -1 R2.... so many balls in the water including a quadruple bogey! Ouch! Nervous times! Just hanging in there trying to avoid a demotion mark this week (finish < 140) so I can qualify for the promotion event next week. Edit: thankful to qualify after finishing 122 Edit2: wow 100th after they finalised - must have been a few people picked up for fairness?

Way too curvy for my inept putting skills!! I think there could be some low scores had out on that course though. The rough just off the fairway doesn't really hurt much if you miss the fairways slightly.

After 4 rounds, I can say that I truly hate Zilker under these circumstances.
It is evident that this course was made for those people that can drop a ball within 5 ft of the hole on the approach shot and make it stop. Not made for a Z player trying to play master clubs, where every mistake, even the slight ones, hurt bad. Greens are so small, and sloped, that even when I was hitting a P/P, in the blue zone, and the ball STILL would go slightly off just enough to roll off the green. And I'd miss a putt, by only an inch, but because the hole is on a stupid ridge, the ball would start rolling again and end up off the green. Sorry but those things just frustrate me to no end, and the more it happens in a round, the worse it got.
Truly glad to be away from this one in this type of setting, and thats only the 2nd course since I started on this tour this past spring that I've felt that way on.
The sad part about it is, I played so bad in rounds 3 and 4, that I may have played my way into a demotion strike, and out of tomorrow's special tournament. I know I don't stand a shot in it either, but I was really looking forward to at least playing in it.
EDIT: I went back and edited this post, with the bold statements. Because after rereading it, I realized just how bad it sounded towards the course creator, and to the course pickers. Someone put effort into creating that course, and I in no way want to tear them down. I've tried making a course and I've got about half a hole done, so anyone that completes one, that is picked to be on tour, is doing way better than me. As for the people that picked it, that must be a hard job also. You can't please everyone. Just because I had bad rounds and this course didn't match my strengths, or brought out my weaknesses, doesn't mean its their fault for picking it.
I must get better myself, and remember to build others up, not tear them down.
