There was a mass shooting at a popular shopping and entertainment area in Jacksonville, Fla., early Sunday afternoon, authorities said. The shooting occurred during an esports tournament in which gamers competed by playing “Madden NFL 2019.” Based on video from the incident, the players were broadcasting their performances on Twitch, a live-streaming platform, when the gunshots began. www.yahoo.com/news/mass-shooting-reported-jacksonville-183605118.htmlDiscuss or not but this is getting ridiculous.

I'm really hoping some old politicians don't find a way to try and link this shooting and video game violence.

The barbaric gun culture of the US. Depressing. Probably should ban the 300 million guns. Even better you could implement the same gun laws Chicago has that is a liberal safe space. Should work out right? In the meantime maybe figure out why white young males are doing this. Could it be they are taught they are the devil by your liberal elite teachers in school? I actually went to one of these tournaments years ago and it was horrible. Bunch of cheating glitching going on. I saw multiple fights. Played my match and left.

So every other country in the world that doesn't seem to have this gun worship mass shooting crap are taught by conservatives in school? Maybe we should ban school.

I'm not a liberal, nor do I usually agree with them. How many times am I going to have to repeat this to you? 😂

A lot young males just rot in our school system. They should be put in trade schools. College is not for everyone. Hey I don't have all the answers I just know that something is seriously wrong with young white males. The guns don't make them shoot people. Banning guns in this country would be impossible and there are plenty of responsibile gun owners as myself who have the right to protect thier families. I am for heavy restrictions on buying ARs or even banning them. To get my carry permit had to go through all sorta of hoops. Which is a good thing. Problem is Johnny who wants to shoot up a school can get one very easily . The other option as I have said before is make things more secure until we can figure this out. That is all I have to say on this. It has been debated at nauseism on the Trump thread.

I'm still very saddened by the events in Jax yesterday. I've been involved in the Madden community for decades. At one point, I was a content contributor and forum moderator at MaddenTips which used to be VG Sports and they sold it to Prima. I'm sure everyone is familiar with the Prima Guides. I had taken the last 2 years off from competitive play, mostly due to needing a mental break because of how deep I was into it. I decided to start my comeback with this year's Madden and have reconnected with a lot of the people I know.
I'm "online acquaintance" with a few of the people that were playing in that tourney, although I have never chatted with Eli or Taylor. Regardless, it was a sad day for competitive gaming in general. I'm still a bit emotionally affected from a community member standpoint. My heart breaks for their loved ones.
There is nothing to politicize here so I hope that doesn't become the focus. I know, surprising comment coming from me. And I'll admit, initially I was "my god, we need to do something about all of this gun violence". But there isn't a real immediate solution to this problem. There's too many weapons in the wild to have anything make an immediate impact. That's where I'm going to leave the political aspect of this. I don't wish to go down that rabbit hole again. It comes up quite a bit in the Traitor thread as it is.
But there is something else that needs to be addressed, and it's something ALL of us can and should do. I'll copy/paste one of my tweets from yesterday:
@jimmysheridanpg If losing at a video game makes you so mad that you feel the need to pull a gun on people, then you need to decide on one of two things….
A) Seek mental help, there’s no shame in that. Take pride in that action.
Or
B) Stop playing video games.

Part 2
@jimmysheridanpg As a parent, there are a lot of things we need to teach our children. One of those is how to lose.
A plea to everyone w/ young ones, teach your kids not only how to win with class but also how to accept losing. Teach them what can be learned from a loss.

Here's my generalized, overhead view - guns don't MAKE people shoot other people. I am 100% in lockstep with that, because well...guns don't have the ability to communicate with humans, therefor it's impossible to coerce them into murder.
However, guns make it easier for people to shoot people. Or, in fact, they are a prerequisite to shooting other people. If you disagree with that, then I'm not sure there's any point in taking the discussion any further.

Where everyone gets a trophy and we are all equal etc...These kids walk out of school thinking they are all going to be rock stars and then life kicks them in the nuts and the ones with underlying mental issues ( which are probably ignored ) just explode and become powerful and famous the wrong way through violence. Bobby Jones said it best imop.... I never learned anything from winning.
