It has some quirks like pins being closer than 10 feet to the edge of the green (which is illegal) That's actually a myth (the illegal pins thing). From the USGA site: Rule 16 Requirements for Hole Location on the Putting Green Q. What are the requirements for establishing a hole location on the putting green? A. The USGA frequently receives requests for guidelines with respect to selection of hole locations on the putting greens, particularly during competitions. There are no rules regarding hole locations, so there is no such thing as an "illegal" hole location. The USGA believes that many factors affect selection of hole locations. The first and most important is good judgment in deciding what will give fair results. www.usga.org/RulesFAQ/rules_answer.asp?FAQidx=143&Rule=16It's a commonly held myth, but a myth nonetheless. Well that is something new.. Thanks for pointing that out cause I thought it was a rule. Seeing what you are saying tho, I can't imagine the USGA signing off on a couple of these hole locations as ones they would "allow" or "suggest" for a tour event. I do know they have their officials go in and check every pin placement for all four rounds to try and balance things out. For example in round 3 often times you will see more holes like par 5's accessible since they want to give the option for "moving Day" while round 4 is usually the hardest.

I remember getting in to a civil, yet firm, discussion with the greenskeeper at my home (real) course on a pin position he had picked for a tournament. I pulled the "illegal flag" argument out and I think he was ready for it because he came right back at me with the USGA thing. So yeah, it's one of those golf things that people hear and go with, but it's not actually the case. You're right though, in tournaments they don't try and purposely screw the golfer over with flag positions. (except for my home course greenskeeper in one particular tournament... not that I'm still bitter about it or anything)

Rule 15-3(ii) recommends that holes should be placed "at least four paces from any edge of the putting green," and even farther if there's a sand trap near the edge or if the area surrounding the green's edge slopes downward.
This is where the "myth" comes from. Since they only put the word recommends in there.

My statistical analysis of trends in the first two rounds of the previous 3 euro tournaments, along with the available data in the current one suggests to me that the average scores in the second round will not be significantly lower than the average for the first. At present the avg is 0.33 strokes above the first round average of available scores, which is 62.43. So while I can't say it definitively, there is a very strong indication that -19 is going to be safe, while -18 is in question for making the cut.
And yes, I currently sit at -19.

Haha. In real life I usually miss the cut by 1 shot, that's why I predicted -22 now as I'm at -21... Some kind of reverse psychology I guess. But it looks like it's going to be around -18/-19 for sure.

Even though Im not playing this week, I will have a crack at the cut. The 68 to 70th players are currently at -14 with 8 players sitting at -15; There are approx. 34 players of the field to submit round one or two scores.
So given the numbers to submit rounds, and the number of players currently sitting at -17 or better (50 players by the way), I would predict a cut of -17, maybe even -16 if a few of those players yet to submit actually withdraw (8 players from the field did not submit a score last week and were effectively Withdrawn).

I reckon the cut is going to be -16.. I think this course is 1 or 2 strokes tougher than Powderfinger last week

The is the first week I've been around the cut line and it's not a nice place to be!! During practice I figured -16 would make it comfortably - oh how wrong I was!

Based on the remaining 25 or so golfers yet to post any rounds, and the few that have only posted one round, I can make the following conclusions.
-18 GUARANTEED TO MAKE CUT -17 WARM UP FOR THE WEEKEND -16 DON'T MAKE PLANS FOR NEXT WEEK (YET) -15 GET READY FOR A LONG NEXT TWO DAY, BUT CAN START TO PRE-PACK YOUR SUITCASES
-14 or worse THERE IS ALWAYS NEXT WEEK

Minus 17 for me, bogeyed the 18th hole on my second round. How crucial will that miss be.

Currently the cut line is -15, but only 3 people have to hit -16 to push them out.
That being said 21 players still remain to play 2 rounds. 2 people (-8 and -6) have to play their second round and could score better than -15.
8 players would have to shoot better than -16 to push the cut line to -17.
If you assume that 1/2 the players 10.5 will shoot better than the average, then -16 looks to be in jeopardy, but take into consideration that there may also be players who won't finish and be DQ'd.
At this point I believe -15 is a 95% chance likely not to make it. -16 is fairing a little better and has around 60-65% chance of making it (based on the fact I know none of these golfers who haven't posted yet)
-17 is mathematically safe since even if all 23 remaining golfers shoot -18, they would tie for 70th.
My prediction of -16 is looking spot on.
