Built the Eden hole today, here it is...
Also a nice view of the 1st, 5th and 8th greens all in view of each other. I like compact routings.

Seth Raynor GC is coming along very nicely. Had a long session yesterday whilst I was hungover. Here's some progress.

Going on holiday on Friday, so I'm hoping to get a course published before I go. It's been a while.

With my CC contest course being named 'Seth Raynor GC' I have now decided to do a series of course designs that are tributes to some of my favorite architects, particularly from the golden age. I'll be starting some of these projects as soon as I'm back from my holiday and have already drawn out a few holes for some of the courses whilst here. A list of courses I plan on doing are as follows...
CB Macdonald GC
Charles Banks GC - with a different name as there is already a good template course by Pitt under this title.
Donald Ross GC
AW Tillinghast GC
Langford & Moreau GC
These are my only picks for now but there will most probably be more as I start to build these courses. I'm open to suggestions to build a course in the style of a particular architect you feel needs to be represented, I know I haven't yet mentioned Mckenzie... Fazio, RTJ and Rees Jones are a straight no! š

Iām still trying to work out how to do it though since he didnāt really have templates, and I donāt want it to just be copies of his best holes either.

I'm just approaching them the way I do fictional versions of Raynor courses. Study the architecture of their courses, get the fairway, green and bunkers shapes similar to how they are done. For my Tilly course it will be something like a Bethpage setting but with Winged Foot green complexes, Baltimore bunkering and the 'moat hole' from Galen Hall. The studying of courses really fills your head with idea's and vision.

Decided to put some effort into a course feature today which is something I don't really care for most of the time. For my new and improved fictional version of Sleepy Hollow I've committed to building the "haunted bridge" that crosses the hollow between the 3rd and 16th holes. Still very unfinished with a lot more ground and bridge detailing to be done, but I'm back in the mood for design after a break since the CC and DT design competitions. This course is more of a long term project and won't be finished for a very long time, unfortunately.

Time to dig up and dust off this old thread...
With the start of the major design contest coming very soon i felt the need reintroduce this thread and nice it is for it to pop its 2020 cherry. I'll be entering the Major contest design this year as I've always had a keen interest in attempting to make courses that play difficult but highly realistic. Obviously I'll be continuing the theme of templates and Raynor's work (š“) but with an added degree of difficulty to hopefully accommodate the challenge needed for a major tournament. My course for the Major will be my tribute/take on Seth Raynors Lookout Mountain GC. A course built on top of mountain with a mixture of rolling and abrupt landforms. This isn't the type of mountain golf you'd associate with Eric's Halstatt or any course of that wildness, Lookout Mountain is much softer and even friendlier, if you like, terrain for building a golf course on. The course will play as a par 70 with a yardage of roughly 7300yds that consists of four par 3's, two par 5's and twelve par 4's. This list of templates and their pars are as follows... (yardages not 100%)
1) Long - par 5 - 620yds 2) Valley - par 4 - 495yds 3) Bottle - par 4 - 450yds 4) Biarritz - par 3 - 240yds 5) Cape/Narrows - par 4 - 475yds 6) Short - par 3 - 145yds 7) Maiden - par 4 - 455yds 8) Steamshovel (original) par 4 - 290yds 9) Lions Mouth - par 5 - 575yds 10) Alps - par 4 - 485yds 11) Knoll - par 4 - 465yds 12) Redan - par 3 - 205yds 13) Prize Dogleg - par 4 - 460yds 14) Leven - par 4 - 405yds 15) Road - par 4 - 480yds 16) Punchbowl - par 4 - 505yds 17) Eden - par 3 - 185yds 18) Double Plateau - par 4 - 370yds
When you add the elevation I have in mind for these holes the yardages are going to feel like a mis-read, especially if wind factors in. The championship version of the course will also play max everything, full on summer firmness with dried out greens. To give a quick example of how I intent to get the course to look see the pictures below...

Big fan of both the Lions Mouth par 5 and the Cape/Narrows hybrid. You'll be pleased to hear I've already planned my Biarritz Assume this would be Countryside (or Autumn)? Either way, looking forward to it!

Love a dormant Lookout: I'm doing two versions of the course, hopefully I can get the textures looking dormant for the firm and fast championship version.

Either way, looking forward to it! The Cape/Narrows will very carefully resemble the 5th at LM which plays as a semi punchbowl that is guarded by a front bunker that is 20-25ft deep. There's going to be some absolute DAF bunkers on this course. I'm going to use countryside and raise the plot up to the maximum height to try and give it a mountain feel.
