This thread will hold all of the details for my future courses and design idea's. I'll also be adding in other extras like detailed analysis of individual template holes, course design philosophy and a bit of history about Template design.
As you may have already guessed, all of my future designs from here on in will be template hole golf courses. I feel that this style of architecture is extremely underrepresented in this game and I want to try and balance it out a bit. Bringing back the classics. I see It as paying tribute the original three, Charles Blair Macdonald, Seth Raynor and Charles Banks.
THE TEMPLATE HOLE PRINCIPLES.
During Charles Blair Macdonald's studies of courses in Scotland, MacDonald identified 21 different hole designs or “templates” that would test a great player’s game while allowing mediocre and poor players angles and options to score well. These “template holes” are typically pretty easy to identify after a little schooling (i.e. the cape, redan, road and eden holes). While these holes are similar from course to course, they are not duplicates. Each hole has been designed specifically for the site to create a unique twist for players.

BRIARCLIFF HOLLOW CC
My next course in the works is Briarcliff Hollow CC. This is a fictional version of Sleepy Hollow CC which is a very highly rated course in real life, but one that certainly stays under the radar. The course was originally designed by Charles Blair Macdonald and has that signature look to it with the deep flat bunkers and bold green designs. Following that sentiment, this will be my sharpest MacRaynor course to date that will feature some extremely bold sculpting and bunkering. A few pictures of the course...
Philosophy.
For those of you that have heard of, or know of C.B Macdonald, Seth Raynor and Charles Banks, you'll have an idea of what the template hole design is all about. For those who don't know, it is quite simple. Template holes are a collection of individual hole designs thought up by Macdonald, and used by himself, Raynor and Banks on each and every course they all designed collectively. These template holes will be at the heart of Briarcliff Hollow.
List of template holes in order from the back tee's.
1. First - Par 4 - 420yds 2. Plateau - Par 4 - 497yds 3. Alps - Par 4 - 459yds 4. Reverse Redan - Par 3 - 199yds 5. Valley - Par 5 - 609yds 6. Cape - Par 4 - 350yds 7. Leven - Par 4 - 345yds 8. Biarritz - Par 3 - 221yds 9. Double Plateau - Par 4 - 371yds 10. Banks - Par 4 - 460yds 11. Eden - Par 3 - 172yds 12. Road - Par 4 - 485yds 13. Moat - Par 3 - 181yds 14. Pits - Par 5 - 511yds 15. Punchbowl - Par 4 - 520yds 16. Short - Par 3 - 161yds 17. Long - Par 5 - 571yds 18. Manor - Par 4 - 469yds
(holes 14 & 15 yardage is NOT a typo)
Here is a nice short flyover of Sleepy Hollow from 2017. This will give you an idea of how the course will look when completed.
Briarcliff Hollow will have a grand total of five par three's. I want this course to be one of the best on the TGC2/2019 database for it's selection of par three's, and decided I'd give five of them, all completey different from one another. Here is a video showing you the flyovers for all five holes...

There were only 21 templates C.B. Macdonald used? I thought it was like 23 or 24

I've updated the first post with the information. i still don’t get it. Why is it a “template”? www.friedegg.co/macraynorHere's a link that explains some templates used in golf courses. The templates stick to certain principles regarding yardage, elevations and bunker placement. For instance a Leven template will have the green on the left hand side normally hidden by a hill if approached from the left. It will have a hazard cutting through the landing area which will present a difficult shot either side. So if you drive left your drive will be easier but your approach will be made harder with the hill. If you go right off the tee it will bring the hazard into play on your drive but an easier approach. I think that's an OK explanation of a Leven template, but check the link and that explains a few templates.

BRIARCLIFF HOLLOW CC
The Reverse Redan hole at Briarcliff Hollow has some great options off the tee. I've built it to benefit a punch shot as much as a full shot, which is something I thought was quite unique in this game. Some pins are inaccessible to get close to without using the Redan shoulder, and a punch shot gives it that extra roll you need to reach the longer pins from the slope. Below is a short video. Four different pins, two tee's shots using a normal swing, two using a punch, and all of them using the Redan shoulder.

BRIARCLIFF HOLLOW CC
With Briarcliff being only a fictional version of Sleepy Hollow I have added elements to this course from another. In this design I've created a few more push up greens than there are at Sleepy Hollow. I got my inspiration from a Charles Banks designed course named 'Forsgate CC.' With Briarcliff only being 7009 yards in total, I wanted to add a little extra difficulty and the best way of doing it was to create more push up greens with deep surrounding bunkers, chip proof bunkers more importantly.
Mounding and push greens not only look very intidating for sight lines, especially for TST players, but it does also add a degree of extra difficulty in regards to landing areas and tee ball placement. Usually you would see more mounding on the flatter courses or Macdonald, Raynor and Banks as they thought it necessary to add character to course, but many of their hilly/elevated courses also feature bold mounding. Here are some great real life pictures of Sleepy Hollow to give you a better idea of my inspiration.

Man that 4th pic looks so much like Riviera #18 it's scary. If I didn't know better I'd think they just plunked down a new clubhouse.

The Sleepy Hollow/Briarciff project is looking very cool but I am very curious to see any photos of the Yeamans Hall course! Any pics of that project by chance?

The Sleepy Hollow/Briarciff project is looking very cool but I am very curious to see any photos of the Yeamans Hall course! Any pics of that project by chance? The reason I haven't really shown any of Charleston/Yeamens is because I'm leaving all tree planting until 2019. It doesn't look that great without. However, I do have three fully completed holes and I would like to get a course update in this thread sooner rather than later. I'll post up a few pictures later on.

CHARLESTON HALL GC
One of my current projects I'm working on is Charleston Hall GC which is a fictional version of Yeamens Hall Club. The plot is very flat and wide, set in lowlands with some very scenic Savanah views. I'm holding off on planting until TGC 2019, but I have started work on some holes. Here are some very early pictures of the holes.
