Again, just to play Devils advocate, haven’t HB catered for the 5% hardcore to a fair degree by turning off shot preview for the “simmiest” club type? The fact that you have players wanting to choose non-sim clubs but to pick and choose other sim options is a reasonable request - but their position is reasonable too - this is a lot of effort and we don’t have time for initial release but will add it to a subsequent release. The request will have come up during beta - the convo will have gone something like... “Oh sh%$ the forums melting with the pro players wanting to lock off the shot preview” “That’s already do-able, just use pro clubs” “But they want it for all club types” “Why? Surely if they are pro they use pro clubs?” “TGCT has a lot of players using baby clubs but pretending they’re super hardcore” “Ok, well we need a new interface element on the front end, new code inside the frontend handler, a new columm on the societies database table, getters and setters for the new column, modify all spots that may need this new flag, including ancillary services like the API. Modify the shot recording software both client side & server-side to handle the new data. Then test, QA, resolve issues, UAT, build into release. Prob about 1-2 weeks effort for designer/frontend coders/backend coders/server side coders/testers” “sh%$ - can you tell them on the forum we may have to do it after release?” “@!$# off, you tell them!” I think people are mostly baffled about this conversation that surely happened at some point: "Hey I think we should add something new to the game." "What is it? Variable conditions and tees for tournaments? More accurate chipping physics? Pot bunkers? Varying lengths of rough? WHAT???" "Actually it's a psychic ability that players can use to see how shots play out before they hit them" "..............Give this man a raise"

I would've thought the conversation you alluding to would have gone more like...
"Hey I think we should add something new to the game."
"What is it? Variable conditions and tees for tournaments? More accurate chipping physics? Pot bunkers? Varying lengths of rough? WHAT???"
"Nah, they just cater further for the 5000 hardcore players who already buy the game, I'm thinking we need some new arcade style features, to allow us to attract a much wider audience, in order to grow the franchise & secure it's long term viability. You @!$#ers & that big PGA license needs paying somehow..."
"Shiiiit... I'm guessing no raise for me this year then?"

An honest question though, have you heard people clamouring for this feature to be added? Why will a pre-shot pretend shot bring people to the game? It's never been in a golf game before, so why now? I understand that is the argument for including it, I just haven't really heard any sound rationale for why this will inspire people to buy.

No I really haven't heard the clamour for this - but then I only hang around hardcore sim gamers. Yes we all want this, me too - I'd most certainly prefer them to focus on all the thing you mentioned in your fake convo But it's pretty clear to see their commercial strategy this year is about widening the audience - with less focus on the hardcore. Whether they'll rebalance at some point is a good question to ask. Really I was just trying to point out - none of this sh%$ is anywhere near as easy as many people think.... best illustrated by the very great Mr Charlie Brooker back in his ScreenWipe days...

As much as many of us dislike the idea of shot preview, most understand why they are doing it - and it does make sense to do. But it makes no sense forcing it on in societies. However, it would not have been hard to add optionality in societies to the requirement specification for the feature, which would have meant little effort to implement. Especially since they took the time to disable it for online matchmaking. Many software features become resource heavy to change once they are implemented (especially if they live in a less than perfect architecture) and it’s important to get the specification right. This is just another occurrence where HB shows a lack of understanding and/or interest in this way to play the game. I’d say that after the initiatives done in TGC1 to help us, TGCT has been successful despite of HB, not thanks to them. TGC19 stress test came off showing 50% improvements, 40% concerns and about 10% “game breaking” omissions...

The fact it’s a month away and there is no date I would say it’ll be an October release.
Either way I would say finish season 4

I would change my vote now. The server maintenance had been apparently abandoned at least on PS4. I would make the switch ASAP!

My original vote was No, and after seeing the recent footage of the new game, I'm thinking that's 100% firmed up now. The day it's out, I don't think TGC2 will get another look in, unless there's serious, major bug on release.
I think there might be quite a large drop-off on tournaments here come that day, if you have to stick with TGC2 for a bit.
Either way - I'm really quite excited and really looking forward to 2019.

My enthusiasm for TGC2 is definitely at an all time low, but I'd still be keen to at least see the big events played out - PGA, Tour Championship, Ryder Cup.
Totally understand the POV that as soon as the new game comes we won't touch the old one, but it would be a shame to end up playing 8 weeks of exhibitions when we could be playing proper tournaments.
Starting a new season with a new game would be a neat and tidy way of doing it

Official plan is to finish out the season in tgc2. We will then start season 5 with TGC 2019. I do expect of pretty sharp drop-off in participation as many people will likely bail for 2019 the longer it's out.

To me it's a no brainer. Finish season 4, then play season 5 with TGC2019. This will also allow time to play test events to ensure everything works fine with the new game.

Will we all have to go through Q school for the new game or are you going to keep the status quo

lessangsterWe haven't discussed it yet. My guess is that things will stay the same. From what I've heard, the gameplay isn't dramatically different. But without much of a beta this time, none of us really know.
