Anyone taking bets on this competition? My top 3: Matt Matt Andre I don't even know where to begin! Hey Eric. Watched the stream and figured I'd answer some of your questions. I don't have a course thread so I'm posting here. As was pointed out in the stream, the building you were thinking of is in Kuala Lumpur. My "city" has no geographical significance at all. Just a bunch of buildings that could maybe be a Chinese city. The par 5s are built so that 1 will always be a 3 shot par 5 (1). 1 can only be reached with a tailwind (5). 1 would be reachable in anything but a head wind (13) and 1 will always be reachable in any condition (18). 5 and 13 is not facing the same direction. What makes the course Chinese? Nothing tbh. I think this is the biggest reason why I'm not satisfied with the course. I tried so many things, but I never got satisfied with any of it. In the end I gave up in giving it that Chinese feel and tried adding haze to give a smog feel, but in order to make that look good I had to turn the lighting 180 degrees and the cast shadows from the city building in such a manner that it would in my view impact on the playability. When we got to pick countries I picked sri lanka or something and then switched yo China because I had so many ideas. None of them panned out. When researching Chinese courses the biggest common theme I found was that all of them could be set anywhere in the world. Most courses features non Chinese designers and unless I wanted panda shaped bunkers and what not it's as diverse as America in terms of course design. It's a big country. Too big perhaps to find that common thread within the design as it seems. I imagine you might possibly have experienced much of the same with Russia. I was worried that the 15th pin 1 would be borderline with the yellows. It looked fine in the designer and it looked fine on my play through after publish. Apparently your Xbox had a different opinion so that's a bummer. To be fair I knew it was going to be borderline but I'm fine with players yelling on a few of my holes I'm glad you enjoyed your round and in the end if more people like it than dislike it that's more than I can ask for. Thnx for the play. I'll be sure to drop by from time to time and now have you followed on Twitter. Good luck in the competition mate! Ps. The second fairway on 15 is reachable with a tour club driver unless you have a head wind.

Playability and looks are both super sharp so I was wondering why you weren't pleased overall...but getting that China feel would be really tough. I especially liked the bunkering on your course Ola, the textures around them were really well done to make them pop. I think a late publish is hurting the buzz about the course a bit, but I think it's every bit a contender as the other top-publishes. Probably 6 people that could win overall and my list is growing as I play the courses. P.S. I definitely would like to see an alternate version with that different lighting you described...would create some amazing looks (even at the sacrifice at some holes)

mrooola - Hi Ola, thanks for the detailed response and for watching the stream, I appreciate it. Your designs have always been enjoyable to me, and this one was no different. Playability was superb, so if we took it "outside" of the bounds of the National Treasure contest and didn't know anything about the China influence, it would stand alone just fine. I also agree with staypuft39 about the bunkers (you may have seen me admiring them on hole 1 when I got started), they have a distinct look with the brown, natural terrain on the rear faces leading out of the sand. That's a really cool look, and I'm not 100% sure how you did that. ;-) But in all seriousness, I hope you didn't take my question about the location as a negative thing. I 100% agree with you about the challenges within the designer software to make a course "look" like some locations, and I had the same problems with Russia because the geography is so big, and there are a lot of courses in Russia that basically look like courses anywhere, just like you said. So, that's why I did a "concept" that had Russia woven through it, but there's nothing about the "look" of the course that screams Russia because there's just nothing in the objects or style that can just make that happen for us. I think you and I basically came to the same realization during the contest, which is that we will build a course as good as we can that can stand alone on its playability even outside of the competition it's for, and I think you nailed that. I would love to see your course on TGC Tours (of course it will be), because it's a very fun course with a lot of value in re-playability. Thanks for a great design!

Oh i didn't take it as a negative at all. Its a fair question and something that needs to be taken in concideration when judging this competition. All countries had its challenges some tougher than others perhaps, but none to be taken lightly. Some nailed it, others didn't. We all could pick and choose (If we wanted to) the challenge we felt we could take on the best or what we felt would be the most enjoyable challenge. Nothing unfair and kudos to those who nailed it. I'm looking at you scarpacci to name one

@griff Any idea on your upcoming streaming schedule? Trying to time it out so that I can be "in attendance" and think I'm 3rd in line now, so was just curious. Thanks!

That cliffside town was one of the first times in this game where I actually sat and stared at the screen for a while and thought... Holy ****. I've now done that three times in this contest, and I'm not through playing the courses yet... so Kudos to you peeps.

Yeah, and the problem with Antonio's phenomenal hillside town is that when somebody else has a similar idea, such as a small Scottish fishing village in the background, people like catcherman22 and staypuft39 see it on TGCT After Dark and say it fell short of the mark. Thanks alot scarpacci!
