I'm a real golfer first, and a video game golfer during the winter. So most of my golf knowledge comes from 'real life' golf rules of thumb.
To that end, with respect to chipping, there are some fairly commonly acknowledged rules of thumb when it comes to chip roll out ratios. SW: 1:1 PW: 1:2 9i: 1:3 8i: 1:4 7i: 1:5 6i: 1:6
So what that means is if you use your 9 iron, and carry the chip 3 yards, it will roll out an additional 9 yards, for 12 yards total. A sand wedge, in contrast would carry 3, roll 3, for 6 total.
Now, those are real life ratios. The Golf Club doesn't seem to work that way. In fact, outside of a lob wedge carrying 4 yards and rolling out approximately another 4 (for a 1:1 ratio, and 8 yards total), I can't even begin figuring out the chipping ratios. All chips seem to roll out a LOT further than I expect them to.
I would love to create a course to test these things out, but being a PS4 user, it's not all that easy.
So my question is, do folks have some rules of thumb they have figured out through trial and error or practice that they might be willing to share?

Here's what I usually chip with 11 yards in - chip w/ LW and adjust loft 11-14 yards - chip with SW and adjust loft 15-30 yards - flop w/ LW and adjust loft

Depends entirely on the green speed aswell.
This is something i struggled with initially but got the hang of it eventually.

I need a chipping coach Next time we're online together send me an invite and we can hack around the greens. Here's what I've been using the last few days: 4-8 yards Chip LW 8-10 yards Chip SW (might go 12 on faster greens) Up to 16 yards Chip PW (Seems as though 16 is the average roll out) 16-30 yards Flop LW I'm still a bit wary chipping with the PW, but if theres a slope that will spin a flop back hard then I'll use the PW.

Legend in my own lunchtime maybe. I think the easiest practice is to load up a new auto generated course in the course designer and turn slope to zero. Then just put your ball off the green and chip, rewind the shot and keep repeating. You'll then be able to change the green speed to see how different it is.

I have the 4 yard loft wedge down. Where I'm just off the green, fringe, about 7-8 yards away. Other than that I'm horrible at chipping. Especially the longer chips.

I use the pitching wedge as its more fun to run it at the hole i find its a feel shot you can swing back and hold then release to the hole when you think you have it just right if you don't sink it its a par at least.

Depending on green speeds and firmness, LW about 4-10 yds, SW 10-15 yds, PW 15-20 yds 9i good luck!. Also need to factor in slope that you land on etc, ie chipping on a downhill slope will cause the ball to roll out a lot more than chipping into a upward sloping green

To get a feel for the chipping distances I went into the editor, made a hole with a huge flat green and tested each club.
This is what I found: anything 10 yds or less = LW 10-15 yds = SW 15-20 yds = PW 20-25+ yds = 9I 30+ yds = 8I etc.
But when I'm outside of 15-20 yds, a LW flop is usually the better option for me. I just adjust the loft angle to achieve the desired distance.
Also, I always hit chips with 100% swing power, because trying to contol the distance with my swing always leaves me duffing it well short.

I just find it easier using one club, every chip i use PW and just adjust the loft according,Then you get to know the right amount of loft for any distance.Anything over 15yds i just flop with no loft, just kind of swing the club a couple of times till you sort of know how much pwr you are going to hit the ball with.

Most the time I'll just flop shot from 6-8yds out. Chipping seams entirely too random as on some holes a 100% shot isn't enough and on other a 100% shot goes 20 yards past the hole.
