Steam Issues With Controller Settings

First off, I have deleted my JerryTheDummy account and have recreated my original account.

I have finally made peace with this game. I've settled into CC-E where I'm having decent finishes and am content with that. In fact, last week, I was 1 stroke from exemption. I'd finally gotten the tempo down, my short game is much better and my putting has improved immensely, making 20 and 30 footers often and only missing by inches on many putts. I felt I was making great progress.

Then this week came and suddenly I couldn't hit the ball straight off the tee to save my life. I should have thought of this problem sooner (not after 3 rounds) but it had been so long since it happened that I completely forgot about it. But sure enough, checking after my horrible 79 round 3, Steam had once again reset my controller settings away from the XBox settings that I chose from the profile (which made all the difference in the world) and to the default settings which simply don't work well on my PC. So I changed them back and round 4 I shot a 65. Too late as I'll be getting a double strike this week.

We should not have to check our controller settings each time we play this game. Once we set them, Steam should leave them alone.

To say that I am annoyed would be a gross understatement.

But the bigger issue is this. I think a lot of people playing on PC who are doing well and then suddenly one week can't hit the ball straight (check the CC-D thread) might very well be having the same issue and don't even know it.

I understand that TGCT has no control over this, but it's still unfair as those on Playstation and XBox platforms don't have to worry about Incompatible controller settings. This places PC players at a huge disadvantage. I was back to not being able to play this game again after finally getting the hang of it.

Sure, I'll be okay after this and next week I'll clear my strikes. But it's still not fair. And it really makes me want to quit this game, not because of TGC 2 itself, which I'm actually starting to appreciate for what it is, but because Steam is so screwed up.

So, if ANYBODY knows a way to set your controller settings in Steam so that they DON'T EVER get overwritten, would you PLEASE let me know so I can put an end to this? The problem seems to happen after a Steam update but not all the time. That's the problem. It's random and I don't want to have to check my settings each time I start this game up.

I feel ya wags, in fact I think I’m the one in CC-D that you’re referencing. I have to reset the steam controller configs after every round or things go crazy (not that they’re good in the first place...) 

Wish I had a solution but unfortunately I find myself in the same place you’re in.

I’m not sure if I’m referencing the same thing as Wags, but I’m talking about steam controller config settings, where you go into big picture mode and click either xbox or ps4 controller support

Mine is on 'Xbox Configuration Support' after starting Steam up.

I'm still awful no matter what it is on.

Exactly, it keeps resetting to default which doesn't look anything like XBox if you compare the two. On XBox, I can hit the ball fairly straight off the tee. Not perfect, but at least inside the cone. On default, it's all over the place. This constant resetting needs to stop. I shouldn't have to check my settings every time I start the game up.

I have no idea what you mean when you say default. How would i know if i was on default?

When you go into that screen in big picture mode, have you identified and saved your controller profile? There should be a column on the right that shows what controllers you have connected, then you can select that controller and click "properties" (think that's what it's called), then I'm pretty sure you can force steam controller configuration on or off and save your selection. Basically, by my understanding, that should ensure your controller is connecting with the same input type every time you play. I'll have to it a look later because its been a while since I've gone into there, but hopefully you're able to figure it out from these general guidelines.

Hm, that's strange. I haven't had an issue with it since I set it months and months ago...doesn't make sense that it works for some but not for all, but I guess that's kind of par for the course with this game lol

Well when it is on, it definitely helps my game. But it just kind of shuts itself off and goes back to very fast every other swing.

I've been having swing issues lately. Everything is fine and dandy one minute, then all of the sudden I lose complete control. Not in like a "I must be getting tired" way, more a complete loss of control over tempo and straightness. I'll look into this steam controller config thing. Everything was fine for 2 years and now all of the sudden, constant bull crap.

So here’s the path I’m taking: 
big picture > settings > controller > controller settings > PS4 Configuration Support and/or PlayStation 4 Controller 

Do you do something differently?

If this is what you've done, too - which I believe it is based on your posts - I find it really strange that you're having to re-do these settings on a regular basis...makes no sense.

Yep, I do exactly that. I see the pop-up in the bottom right corner as well.

EDIT- I do see you turned the controller shutdown off... mine is set to 5 minutes. Could that have something to do with it?
