REPORT TO THE NESBIT WORLDWIDE GOLF EMPIRE COMPETITION COMMITTEE
Background:
The Nesbit Worldwide Golf Empire has commissioned the construction of twelve new courses in different landscapes around the world. One of those will be Kakadu Wetlands.
Location:
Kakadu National Park is in Australia’s Northern Territory. The UNESCO World Heritage listed area encompasses wetlands, rivers and sandstone escarpments and it’s home to a huge variety of plant species and wildlife from saltwater crocodiles and kangaroos to birds ... and Crocodile Dundee.
But if anyone in Kakadu wanted to swing a golf club they were limited to practicing on the cane toads. Kakadu has been missing a golf course ... until now.
Approvals:
We have acquired an area of Kakadu and we have gained all necessary approvals from the aboriginal custodians of the area, the Northern Lands Council, Commonwealth and State Governments and UNESCO.
Access for Visitors:
Kakadu Wetlands is in a remote area of Australia. Access will be by 4WD track (not passable during the wet season), helicopter and float-plane.
Accommodation:
Kakadu Wetlands is in an environmentally sensitive area so we will have a simple clubhouse with ‘glamping’ accommodation facilities on the plateau above the floodplain.
Marketing:
The marketing campaign is well advanced with TV commercials, poster campaigns and radio jingles already developed.
TV Commercials
We have engaged Crocodile Dundee and the ‘grandfather’ of TGC, Anthony Kyne, to appear in the commercial. Here is the proposed script:
Scene: Dundee and Kyne having a beer in the garden of the clubhouse
Kyne: “Little Brook Manor is such an awesome course”
[Dundee smiles]
Dundee: “That’s not a golf course ...”
[Dundee’s arm sweeps out towards the course]
Dundee: “THAT’S a golf course!”
[Camera pulls back to showcase the course]
Poster Campaigns:
You’ll Never, Never Know. If You Never, Never Go. Play Kakadu Wetlands
Where the Bloody Hell Are You? Kakadu Wetlands of course!
Radio Jingle:
[To the tune of Black Lace’s Agadoo]
Kakadu-du-du
Lots of water and some trees
Kakadu-du-du
Enjoy the fairways, greens and tees
Hit it left, hit it right
Hit it straight to get the smiles
Go for eagles, go for birds
But watch out for crocodiles!
Course Construction:
With Nesbit WGE approval we managed to get an early start during the dry season. The course construction is progressing well with the bones of 10 holes already laid down. We are on course for completion by the planned late January 2018 deadline. However there are some concerns that we will run out of plant meter and designer talent!
We will provide some course photos later in the construction phase once holes are fully completed and planted.
