Played TGC1 for ages and whilst not great I was competitive in my group at times and with promotion and relegation from CC's I had something to play for every week.
Two weeks into tour on TGC2 and I am rubbish.
Drives about the best thing I can do. No major problems here.
Approach and par 3's : Whenever I take off some club it ends up well short. When I decide not to take anything off a club it goes much too far.
Chipping : Again when I expect to get near the pin the ball just checks and stops. When I give a little bit more the chip ends up far past the pin.
Putting : Again when I expect put to go close it comes up well short. Give the ball a good go and the ball runs very far past again. Seems that even on good puts that just miss by a trickle speed wise the ball is going well past the pin in the end.
So in summary I am rubbish. Don't know if I have got the heart to play through demotion until I reach the bottom. I loved TGC1 and thought it was the best golf game I have played and I have played many. Don't get wrong that was frustrating at times but I could see light at the end of the tunnel.
So all in all I am rubbish.
TGC2 is just wasting my time at present and I can see no gains no matter who much I play. Even got to the point that I don't swear now as I am resigned to the fact I am rubbish ha ha.
Any tips or practice strategies welcome.
Thanks for any replies.
Neil

Have you gone to the driving range and practiced lofting up clubs? I'm on PGA and have only used tour clubs since the beginning. To put this in perspective a bit, my WGR is 22, and have been fortunate enough to be one of the better players for quite some time. I came to TGC2 with high hopes. In my first tournament I shot an abysmal +13 or so. I was devastated, frustrated and embarrassed. I was used to shooting in the -40's and -50's so this was a HUGE set back. I just kept at it and went to the driving range and really put in some practice and then I started lofting each club to the letter "w" on the word draw and recorded that yardage. That gave me a better idea on how much or little the loft affected the shot. This part of the game is WAY different from TGC1. I played my very next tournament a week later and shot in the -40 range I believe it was. It was an unbelievable turn around. My best tourney so far has been -57!! That was good enough for first place, but it was a practice tourney. I'm not bragging here, my point is I struggled too and with practice it will get better. Also...I was struggling with my swing so badly, I decided to use the same swing I used in TGC1 and guess what...it worked here as well!! That changed everything for me. I also learned that the downswing is the most important part of the swing. I get quite a bit of P/P swings, but I usually get F/P and the ball goes right where I want it anyway. You just have to stay away from getting the fast, very fast. or slow DOWNSWINGS...those will hurt badly! If you want you can PM me and I'd be happy to help you if you think you would benefit from any of my advice. If you're on PS4, I would be happy to play with you and help you along and provide any help I can. I don't care about winning, I just want EVERYONE to enjoy the game and have fun with it. I understand that being competitive is also everyone's goal for the most part, but playing well for YOU is what you should focus on for now. I was in the lower end of PGA for over a year and a half before I really got it together. Hope this helps and gives you a little hope

It looks like you are using Standard Clubs (short driver distance, high FIR, low GIR), it's impossible to play with them. Change to Players.

Drives about the best thing I can do. No major problems here. Let me be the first to say it...this is likely the least important part of the new game to me. The ability to know what to do should you get into trouble is where you will shave and save strokes off your scorecard.

I'm not very good either.. And knowing whether the ball will roll or stop on chip shots frustrate me greatly but..
I've found as true with most things I guess is practice.. I don't do it enough but if I play a couple rounds in a row I get better a tad. I'm debating on going to driving Range to make a chart with all the fixins' which should help greatly, the chart and the time I put into making the chart. I'll probaly find a few aahh-huh moments.
That's all I got man practice. Not trying to be a wanker either, I gotta talk myself into it as well. Good luck and don't give up, don't ever give up! Don't ever say "game over man"

faymondo, dude I felt your pain when the game first came out. It had me so dismayed that I hardly played at all for the first month and a half after it came out. But when the email came out about the tours starting back it gave me some incentive to practice and that was the real key as bassman said above. I'll still never be better than a CC player but I got to where I can be competitive. A couple things that have helped me...I look at my controller when I swing instead of the screen (except for chipping and putting), it took me a while to get the tempo down but once you get a feel for it, it's not too hard. I use loft very conservatively, usually just small clicks up and down and try to avoid it all together if possible. Keep at it and hopefully something will click with your game.

For many people, such as myself, TGC 2 is much harder. I had made it to PGA in TGC 1. With TGC 2 I will soon be in CC-Z.
I have no suggestions. My goal is to shoot around par. If I can do that, I'm happy.
Good luck getting your game together. Just know that it's not just you.

Personally I like to use the flop shot pretty much anywhere around the greens because its hard to predict how much check I will get with the ball when I do a regular chip. I've practiced a lot how much of a swing to use to dial in on distances. If I'm close enough on an approach shot I like to pitch my irons instead of hitting a full wedge.
My point is this... if the traditional shots aren't working for you and you don't seem to be getting the results you want, try something different and see what feels best for you. Once you master your own game your scores will improve.
I don't like to see anyone throwing in the towel out of frustration! This game really nailed that realistic frustrating part of golf. Good Luck!

the problem with me and this game is the horrible FPS I have been getting on the PS4. It has completely ruined it for me. With the tempo swing its almost impossible to be consistent. I can make the same swing and have p/p then p/s makes no sense! Then when you try and fix it then bam p/f!
The funny thing is this game does mess with your head! hit a couple missed cones and now you are second guessing your swing, then you start over compensating, which just makes it worse. Fun times!

On my PS4 was playing absolutely dreadful on tour level - try 21 over on one round. Just on a hunch I swapped the swing to left hand and lo and behold completely perfect swings. It is not me, but the PS4 controller the right was just random outcomes no matter.

On GC 1 I would shoot -10 consistently, on this I can barely break par. The putting is garbage. I hate this thing.

So many putts burning the hole or lipping out from ten feet and in my putting percentages must be down to about 40% holed.
