OK, guys...we have our field set and now have our own area in which to conduct business. A few things of note: - We will have the live draw to fill out the brackets this Wednesday (July 12) at 9pm EST on TGCT AfterDark. It is a random draw (no seedings for The Showdown) as to who faces who in the first round. The draw is done with the "Wheel Of Death". It makes for a fun time if you guys are able to tune in. - Remember that all courses are due at 12pm CST (1pm EST) on Thursday, August 31.
- All completed course threads should go in this section of the forums. I will then move the course threads to the "completed course" section as we move through the contest judging. This accomplished 2 things: 1. It makes it easier for the judges to find individual course names when preparing notes and judging matchups. 2. We don't want to flood the regular completed courses section at one time. That's not fair to designers that aren't in the contest, as it usually buries their threads in short order.
- I usually keep the judges anonymous, but it's going to come out sooner rather than later. While their comments will remain anonymous, the judges will be catcherman22, acesrwild64, tastegw, reebdoog, and myself. In the past we have always used a much larger pool of judges, but we're going to try a smaller panel this time around to see if we can streamline the process a bit. I think most would agree that this is a judging panel that is more than capable of judging a contest of this calibre and insuring that the courses that advance are done so on the merit of the course submitted.
We had a lot of fun with this contest last year, so hoping the same holds true for 2017. Good luck to all, and we're looking forward to seeing what you guys kick out over the next month and a half.

I'm excited for this, as it will be my first design contest. I'm expecting to be eliminated early, but I'm excited to see all of the submissions!

If I've learnt something from the contests is expect the unexpected. It's not unusual to be loved by any.. sorry got distracted by Tom Jones. It's not unusual to have a few of the big names out in the early rounds. These competitions usually push the bar in terms of quality. And @griff, thanks for setting this thing up, i really love them. I'm liking the idea of the smaller judging panel, and those names are big Good luck guys.

Should be fun.
Decided I'm not going to use either of my WIPs - I'm putting off a Harvest theme course called Mockingbird Weald for a while, and the Delta theme one I'm working on, Mahamba, is already in the planting stage. Also, while I'm a lot happier with Mahamba than I was with my first course (Byzantium GC Timber, which I'm not sure I'll even finish), There's still things I'd do differently and I'm hoping to finish it up soon, publish it, get some feedback, then get working on my course for the competition.
Barring any sudden flashes of inspiration, I'm planning on my course for this competition to be a Highlands course, by the name of Aengus Rock.

Also very excited for this. I'm thinking there will be less in the way of upsets this time around, with a very experienced judging panel, however TGC2 has taught me to expect the unexpected.
Had a course I started that I was going to run with, but had a new idea before the weekend and have been making notes for a few days now. Hoping I have enough time, but these contests tend to light a fire under my butt, so that should help.

I'm handicapping myself off the bat by going with the tropical theme. At least I can say I don't mind a challenge!

Sam will eliminate my entry at first opportunity Ah! my old adversary........ What price the wheel of death at best chains us into the same cell? We are 1 & 1 after your Invicta triumph I believe? Be safe in the knowledge I will need to overcome a massive hurdle at least once at some point in the proceedings. Should Lady luck shine down on you - my fate shall be sealed if & when we do indeed lock horns - I can taste defeat already!!!
