I've played perhaps 10 rounds now working on getting better before I attempt Q-school but have some questions.
1. Is there a cut line for Q-School? or does everybody get a participation ribbon :-) 2. Do courses change each month for Q-School? 3. At what point should I attempt Q-School (relates to #1)
My plan was to play the 6 courses a few times to learn the course and learn the swings and measure my progress - HOWEVER - Shawnee Creek Golf Club does not get my vote for a valid course. Watching a 50 foot putt get to 3 feet of the hole and then roll backwards 60 feet TWICE is disheartening (although it's good practice for 60 foot putts). On another hole missing a 6 foot putt I rolled over 120 feet down hill and had to lob wedge back to the hole. (Whining finished).
For newbies - putting really does get easier. I have not broken par yet but see a LOT of improvement in just 10 rounds. Just keep at it and don't get frustrated. This IS just like real golf.
On another thread I mentioned using DRAW and FADE to counteract wind. Well, yea but it seems accuracy becomes a little more important and a miss hit REALLY puts you in land no one has ever been before.

Nuff Said Rod (Grinder12000) - No cut line - Same courses each month, until we switch over to TGC2, the we will probably get new ones, but don't quote me on that. - You can really do q-school whenever you feel ready. I'd suggest playing practice rounds on those 6 courses, and once you're shooting around -5 on each one, but that's my opinion. The opinion of someone on the worst CC tour lol. Anyway, you can chalk out the q-school section of this article for more info- Rules and Info

Do the Q school now. You'll also get better playing thee weekly tournaments. You probably start 1 or 2 tiers lower but you will always play at your own level. Hell, you might win a tourny down there before going up the ranks. I'm a euro player now but my only win was in cc-b.

Hell, you might win a tourny down there before going up the ranks. I'm a euro player now but my only win was in cc-b. I agree. I know some would say you should practice and practice until you really get the hang of it, but the worst that can happen is you get placed in CC E. Personally, I loved it on the CC circuit, and ok, I struggled early on until I worked out what the heck I was doing, but then it's great fun fighting your way up the ranks. You do get better as you play, so why not play the tournaments as you go? Bear in mind the q school courses are really tough, and deliberately so to filter out the players into the correct tier to start with. Once you get on the CC tour, they are much easier and more fun and as you get better, you find you can deal with the more difficult courses. And yes, we have all been there with the ball going to the cup and rolling back to your feet! I still am, come to think of it and I play on the Euro tour LOL. Dont be put off off if you struggle to start with, most folk did too. We all have to start somewhere. You have 120 over to beat on my q school score. Still proud of that to this day. I was wrecked afterwards! Good luck whatever you decide to do.

Thank God others think they are tough. But I agree, tough is good for learning. When I get lazy I get punished. LESSON LEARNED. Or the one "beer" to many problem kind of lazyness.
I was playing that 5th course this morning and missed an easy putt but forgot to look at what happens if I go to far. YIKES, coming back up the hill 60 feet. And THEN it got hard as I could not make it up the hill until my 3rd try LOL LESSON LEARNED.
Still hitting under 80 when the winds are not howling. Tail winds are killing me even with math.
I love this game. Not arcade, real golf-ish.

I tried doing what you did but realised quickly the Q school courses are set up to put YOU in the level you are capable of
Long story short do Q school now and cop the scores u get and then start to improve during tournaments.
Good luck

As for the 60 foot rollback twice. What you should learn from that is to check the green before your approach shot. If you can see that slope play past the pin or atleast to a position that takes that slope out of play.
You will need to look at the greens with this in mind every hole you play.

I also agree with the dive right in and get Q-School out of the way approach. The weekly tournaments are where the fun is.

A large part of the fun is the journey through the tiers, you'll always end up at the right level. I think I shot +25 in Q-school and started in CC-E like the majority of others, Dunholme Manor (the 2nd course) tore me a new one and the pin positions on the last course are downright unfair! Don't worry about it, get through it as best you can and get on tour because that's where the fun starts!

Agree with what others are saying. Go ahead and play the Q school so you can start playing tournaments. That's where the fun is and where you will see the greatest improvement in your game. I cursed my way through Q school and ended up starting in CC-D a few months ago. Won a tournament there a few weeks in. Have moved up to B since and figure I will get to A here shortly. Climbing up ranks that way is definitely more fun and rewarding than practicing forever to get good enough at crazy Q school setup and starting at high level. O Also keep in mind we are in the final weeks/months of playing on TGC1. 2 sounds like it's coming in spring and no one really knows how the transition between the games will go as far as the tours go. So again, best to get started on a tour now rather than practice Q school forever. About the time you master it you'll be moving to a whole new game. Might even be a whole new TGC2 Q school for everyone.

I had a 78 on that 2nd course and ws feeling cocky. But BAM - hit a wall and took a couple 8s among pars on a few others.
I played on a Tour for 6 years in LINKS with about 60 others.
To be honest I purchased EA Rory a month ago and then learned about the Course design in TGC like 5 days ago. Picked it up cheap just to see if I should bother with TGC2. TGC is BLOWING MY MIND! In EA Rory I won my first 6 tournaments - NOT FUN. TGC2 sounds GREAT.
I played 4 rounds yesterday before I had an aneurysm (kidding!! - sick wife actually).
Thanks for the advice

Ahhh....the good ol' days of LINKS. Many fond memories of Mark Hulka and the VGA Tour... But TGC, and in particular this community here at TGCT blows that all out of the water.
I'll just chip in (no pun intended) with the others that it sounds like you've practiced enough and that it's time to slog your way though Q School, and then get on with the real challenge (and fun)!

OK OK - I finished a practice round of all 6 courses and decided to pull the trigger and start q-school.
#2 hole of Old Beaver - HOLE IN ONE!!!! I saved it. Not sure how to share it.
The rest of the story - ended at 70 -2 OMG!!!!
I hope I submitted the score correctly - seemed pretty cut and dry but my score is not in the unverified area so I'm a little nervous

What have you been waiting for?!?? Congrats on the ace... now just don't end up in my flight -- where I'd have to contend with AceMan!
