Well said fellas....... At the end of the day - If folks are having fun playing your track you got the main ingredient right. It's just a game after all - Video golf........ Fun factor versus playability versus realistic. Me? Gimme the first two in abundance & add a sprinkle of realism for authenticity.

He doesn't owe anyone anything other than what he promised...brutally honest reviews. I'd say he has delivered yes? Reeb, at least as it relates to a few of these courses/designers, I strongly disagree with your assertion that his videos are "brutally honest reviews," and that's kind of the point. I had always assumed part of the purpose of a community was to support and uplift other members, and IMO, it doesn't feel like that goal is 100% mutual across the board. That is fine, in no way is any person obligated to worry about anyone other than themselves, I guess I had just expected more. I actually think taste is funny at times, and I could see myself getting along with him, but I would be lying if I said I agreed with the direction of his "reviews" - and that's taking my atrocity of a course out of the equation. But then again, it's just a game, so I don't plan on losing any sleep over it.

I was just waiting for someone to play the card that I must somehow be tight with him and must be part of some kind of inner circle.
If you think that then it's your problem as I am not part of any circle of any kind and am simply trying to calm down folks that are quitting because of some guy with a video channel. I could sit here and try and defend myself and prove some point...but I'm not going to as it's always been one of the dumbest things I've ever heard and will continue to be so and nothing I could say would convince anyone otherwise. Feel free to play the "circle" card with Griff or Andre or any of the other guys that actually has a voice people care about. I can tell you what their response will be (the same as mine...since they have had the SAME conversation with many more before you). *shakes head*
IT IS A GAME PEOPLE! Play what you like, Don't play what you don't like, design for yourself, ignore advice you don't want to take, take advice that's good, get better, stay the same... it doesn't matter. My life and my self worth do not revolve around a golf video game which is why you very rarely see me partake in this kind of idiocy. I guess it's easier to pretend there is a group out to get you though and just lump everyone into that group that doesn't agree with you. Seems reasonable.
Taste is what he is. He's funny but he is more like a roast than a review. It's a guy making a video. Don't watch. Don't care. Why should you? I don't.
One more thing, The "Brutally Honest reviews" are only Brutally Honest according to one person. The person making the video. The reviewer is the one that determines that, not the reviewee or the audience.

Justin....... Gotta back Reeb up here...... They have a mutual respect when it comes to course design but they certainly aren't "tight."
Tasty G Double U is just an agenda driven spin doctor who's very clever when it comes to a bit of techy software. In the Summer Showdown design competition final stages he tried the dirty sleaze campaign videos..... remember? People saw through him & it backfired spectacularly when the votes were counted. He gets a kick out of what he does...... Folks make their own mind up whether they do too.

thanks Sam. I will never understand the whole "There is a conspiracy against us!" idea. We play video games. We aren't that coordinated. Besides...and I think Taste will understand this...I don't care for a lot of his stuff. The contest course this time? It was ok... it wasn't my favorite of his by a long stretch...but that's the nature of creation. Some are better than others and usually we even toss out duds now and then. It's life.

For myself personally as someome fresh out the womb I couldn't wait to hear from Canuck via the stream when this first started because he is someone I've picked up some tips from and respect. It doesn't appear the streams are ongoing anymore and that's fine. I would of liked to have heard from Todd and Reeb too but it's also fine and in their defense I don't think they did much commenting when the courses came in. Enough time has passed and enough feedback has been given from other sources and I'd bet more than anything much of the feedback from them would be much of the same as I have already heard. A large majority of my errors were just stupid stuff from an unfinished submission that are no brainers. Moving forward I'd like to take some of things pointed out and try to improve or avoid making the same errors next time. Things like "hey your fairways were rough...I did a stream awhile back that may help you" or "here is a green contour thing you should look at". Outside from Griff...I didn't get as much of that through this contest which what I thought maybe I'd might get from the upper tier guys here to some degree. But again...it's a contest not a training session so it's cool. Post contest I have however gotten some solid stuff from a few people within the Xbox community who weren't exactly tied to this contest and for that I appreciate the time taken in those regards.

It's cool....no rush bud. I'd rather you look at my more polished product than the dumpster fire on file. I'll shoot you a heads up soon...

Post contest I have however gotten some solid stuff from a few people within the Xbox community who weren't exactly tied to this contest and for that I appreciate the time taken in those regards. The streams are still coming, just taking a bit of a break from them at the moment. Will try to get some more done hopefully tomorrow. This thread has made for some interesting reading in the last couple days and I'd like to weigh in. Everyone needs to remember that when they are in the designer, to just design for themselves. I design to relax and have fun. I've been lucky enough to get some mostly positive feedback and many people have said they enjoy my courses, but that doesn't keep me going. It's just fun to do. I've taken a break, but have recently gotten back into it and am enjoying it again. Taking (constructive) criticism really helped me when I first started out and I tried to give as much constructive feedback as I could when I used to do my own critiques. It's really easy to take offence when someone says something that isn't positive about your work. Try as best you can to learn from it, instead of attacking. We are designing fake golf courses for a video game, remember. Taste and I do not see eye to eye on alot of things and I feel that these "honest reviews" and scoring the courses should have been done after the final prize was awarded as I feel it is really taking away from the great courses that are in this competition. That being said, although I have not seen any of the videos he has done here, Taste is an incredible designer and if his feedback is constructive, use it as a learning tool. Design to have fun. None of us have designed a golf course in real life (at least I don't think so), so we are far from "experts" on the matter. Once you've figured out the basics of the designer (smoothing, bunkers, etc), all the rest is purely subjective.
