Im still (several days later) laughing at my first round hole 9 score...... I hit my second shot just below the green... I flopped up, back to feet it came, I flopped up again, back to feet it came I free hand flopped (not loft) back to feet it came..I got mad, flew behind pin top shelf, putted ever so softly, Off the friggen green it went... 10 strokes later I finally sunk my putt.... So distraught I proceeded to double bogie the next hole.... Then I fired out birdies from there out.. I didn't play well, but had a ball around this track.... I have shot very low on it, just not in the tourney....Which had me laughing.. Fourth round was an adventure, where I ended up +6....It wasn't a rage quitting type +6 it was more of a what in gods name am I doing +6 Funny thing is I am at the point I know my game is good enough to go PGA or Euro, Ill get an exemption one week with a -40, then crap the bed, come back to Web, get another exemption to move up, play a terribly hard course where I missed the cut by a couple strokes, and end up in web again, and crap the bed on this week... That's what keeps me coming back though.... Where I end up weekly is where I end up... Used to get frustrated over a bad hole/round, but heck Im just glad we have these tours... It is a load of fun, regardless of the course, score, round, etc..... Bring on Crooked Stick... Lets see what hilarity I can create on this one Stay tuned... ha ha ha ha... Terry, you're priceless. Love your attitude. Also looking forward to crooked stick.

Well after what I though was a disasterous round 1 I still had a chance of making the cut. My target was a -4 round to leave me at -5. My tactics were to play safe, avoid doubles and higher. The round started slowly, three pars, but picked up quickly with some good play to be -4 after 8. The dreaded 9th was next, the scene of disaster on round 1. I had a flop shot from 30 uphill into wind, I de lofted thinking that would be enough to stop the backspin. It wasn't though and I was back where I started. I was thinking "Here comes the first disaster' but I managed to keep it up there on my next attemp, I did two putt but a bogey felt like a par on that hole. I recovered well with three straight birdies. If ever there was proof that playing safe is the best policy then the 13th was such a hole. A very safe tee shot meant I was more than 60 yards away when I took my third. Still a good chance for birdie I thought. That was until the pitch shot rolled in. It seems like an age since I had an eagle on tour. I was sitting pretty at -9 after 13. Unfortunately that's when my putter decided it didn't want to cooperate anymore. Annoying misses followed but I didn't drop any shots, the 16th actually brought the 8th birdie of the round although it was a chip in rather than a putt.
So -9 heading into the final hole, another scene of disaster in round 1. I'd hit the ball short into the water last time and I wanted to avoid a repeat. All I wanted to do is avoid the water. I failed!!!! Long this time of course. I found the rough on my second but missed the chip. A double on the last tarnished the round somewhat but still delighted to make the weekend and at -8 I'm not even close to the cut. Rounds 3 and 4 will be played tonight. I'm sure I'll wish I'd missed the cut by the time I finish!

Don't worry, Crooked Stick is next and it ain't much better. LOL.

Well I really enjoyed the battle on round 3. I was trying to get under par but a bogey on the 17th lost me that chance. Still though, I was delighted to stop my disasters on 18 with a birdie to finish even par. I even parred the 9th!! I made so many saves from difficult positions. One of my most satisfying rounds on the tour.
Round 4 was easier due to the wind but firm conditions and difficult pin positions made it tricky. I had an up and down round. I didn't have any disasters though, I made a couple of long putts which isn't the norm. I finished with a solid -4. I'm currently 5th on PS4 so may even be heading for a top 25 finish, too early to say but I can dream! To think when I finished round one with 4 shots dropped over the last two holes I was expecting another missed cut.
I like most of what the course is trying to do, I like difficult pin positions, tight fairways where the further you hit the more hazards you put into play. I know it's tricked up, but with the current game, it is sometimes necessary. Saying that, I still think it should always be possible to stop a ball on a tier and I just don't think it is here on a couple of holes, especially the 9th.
That was mainly enjoyable but boy have I got more gray hairs that I did before I started this week!

Sometimes a hole is about playing it safe, staying out of trouble, and getting out of there with your par. And that's ok. A test of patience is still a fair test.

Playing to a different part of the fairway or green for par makes sense. Purposely hitting the rough or bunker is a bit different.

Playing to a different part of the fairway or green for par makes sense. Purposely hitting the rough or bunker is a bit different. That's an issue with game mechanics as our golfer is way too accurate and recovery is too easy. It's important to think "within the confines of this game." Hopefully, TGC2 brings "the confines of the game" closer to the way golf is played in real life. From what I've read, it's headed in that direction. Then you'll see these types of designs (some call them tricks) disappear from well-made courses. They won't be needed to bloat scoring.

Finally got a couple rounds in. I've been in a putting slump for several weeks now and this one was much of the same, but I made a few that were not supposed to go in, which helped a lot. The part that really sucks is the ghost ball they put me with shot a 55 in the first round compared to my 68. Are these people playing 500 practice rounds? Do these people have a job?

I'm so glad that's over with. Last two rounds just mediocre even, soon as I got rolling I crashed and burned, both rounds. I misjudged everything, left it long, left it short, but never left it near the pin.

Watcher of the Watchers Report 19 hours Remaining -3 is 9% down 20% for JohnDH -2 and -1 have now been Watchercised Projected Cutline : -5 Someone must've only played round 1 and been more than 3 under because I was in 71st when I left work a few hours ago and somehow made the cut at -3. Wow. I practiced the CC event twice through already but now I guess I need to finish 2 rounds on this course Edit: Even in round 3, went out of bounds twice on the same hole in round 4 for a 10, finished +4 for the round and +1 overall.

If you're referring to me, I actually played 0 practice rounds and work 50-60 hours a week accompanied with weekend travels most of the time. I usually have barely enough time for 4 tournament rounds and maybe 2 Elim bracket rounds if I'm lucky. I don't doubt there are some who practice until their blue...but I just had a good round. About to go squeeze in rounds 3 & 4. Wish me luck!

I understand that but if it's impossible to land it on the green then for me that's not right. Which hole? 9th hole. Maybe I'm just not skilled enough. The only way I can see making the middle tier was a chip from the rough at the side. You could make the upper tier but then you can't stop the ball rolling past the middle tier and off the green. I would be happy having to aim for the upper tier if you could putt down and get it to stop.

Are you on PS4 and have Roman numerals in your username? If so, following that ghost ball was demoralizing. Ha
