WGC Match Play - Format
As we near the WGC Match Play Championship we have decided on a format for the event. Unfortunately we will not be able to do a true match play due to the limitations within The Golf Club. Instead this will be the format:
All six rounds will be live at the start of the week. The first 3 rounds will be due by Wednesday (11:59pm est). Rounds 4 and 5 will be due Friday. At this point we will try and have the finals broadcast live on twitch on Saturday if we can arrange it between the two finalists and their schedules permit. Otherwise, the same format as first 5 rounds will be used to determine the winner.
We'll match up the R1 scores to the bracket and process winners. Rinse and repeat for the remaining 5 rounds until we have a winner.
Schedule Update - Deadlines Moved
We are finding that the overlap of the schedule is creating an anti-climatic feel to the end of an event. We are making some adjustments to try and put more focus on the final results. So the overlap is now gone and will be replaced with the following
This will remove the overlap so that events will be completed before anyone plays a round on the next event. There will still be 5 days to complete your first two rounds. You'll have Friday and Saturday to complete the final two rounds if you choose to wait.

U.S. Open Design Contest
Alright designers! This one is for you. We need a challenge for the US OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP!
This post is to officially introduce the TGCT US OPEN DESIGN CONTEST!
Sign-up here: Click me!!
What does this mean?
* We are looking to feature a difficult course that foregoes trickery for the US Open.
* Preference will be given to Par 70s and Par 71s over Par 72s.
* "Traditional" style golf courses are encouraged here, with tree-lined fairways, medium-firm/fast greens (that still hold shots), and length is a requirement (7000+ yards minimum). *
* Courses that severely penalize misses will be preferred here. Maybe very little light rough and more heavy rough around the fairways.
* The player's greatest challenge should be executing shots, especially long approach shots into the greens.
* Theme preference will be Boreal, Countryside, Rural, Harvest & Links
* Desert and Alpine themed courses will not be considered.
What do we get if win?
* The winner will get to host the 2015 US OPEN on TGCT
* The winner will get $115 from TGCT (this is the 115th US open this year)
* The 2nd/3rd place designs will receive the rights to host the US Qualifying tournament! This will be a 2-round open qualifying tournament to round out the field!
* The top 3 finalists will all receive sponsor exemptions to play in the 2015 US OPEN.
We are all super excited about this. This is way to get the PRO tours some very challenging courses that we can use down the road!
Additional Details
* Only 1 entry per person
* We will publishing a scorecard soon so you can see all the judging criteria.
* We will be putting together a judging panel very shortly (some of you in the community will be approached to be on it)
* You will NOT be allowed to be on the judging panel and design.
* None of the TGCT Core admin will be allowed to enter the competition.
* We may have some other category winners (TBD)
* Anthony Kyne (producer of this great game) has just agreed to be a JUDGE!
* Please do not submit multiple pins.
* Elz and Canuck will be involved on the front end providing video analysis and feedback of the entries (+ a great reveal show)
* Deadline for submissions will most likely be around the May 24th time frame.
* We are looking for brand new courses (not redesigns of a previous course you may have created)
* Be creative -- think US OPEN -- show us in your design what a US OPEN track means to you!
If you want to enter this contest, you must let us know by MARCH 31, 2015. NO EXCEPTIONS. Please give us your Real Name, Gamertag, and System when signing up. Judging Criteria
- Routing - Which directions do your holes play? Does the course allow for every possible wind condition?
- Hole Design - Are bunkers, hazards, bushes, trees, etc. placed in a well, thought-out way. Can each hole be set up with various pin placements and tee boxes to vary it round by round?
- Risk/Reward Balance - Do some holes allow the player to take a riskier route in order to achieve an advantage? Is the player fairly, but not overly, punished for not executing a riskier shot?
- Beauty - Is your course a "visual feast" for the eyes? Is attention and care taken to bunker sculpting, planting, and elevation (both on the holes and around them)? Is the lighting appropriate without being too dark?
- Variety - Does your course have a mix of doglegs (left and right), straight holes, long and short holes? Does it require the golfer to use every club in the bag? Does it force the player to play draws and fades when needed?
- Continuity - Does your course "flow" and maintain a common theme or does it feel sporadic?
- Difficulty/Playability - Is your course a true test of golf without having to be tricked up? Are landing areas narrow in nature without being too strict? Are your greens difficult without being overly sloped or unable to hold shots? Is the player appropriately punished for being on the wrong side of the pin?
