I've started the thread to raise a concern.
I've just started my first round (on XB1) and at hole number 5 (Par 5) all 3 of the ghosts I'm playing with have appeared to chip on the green. Two of these are fellow CC-A players.
They were all off the green grid but still on the green. My understanding is that if you are on the green surface regardless of whether it is on the green grid then you need to putt. Can someone please clarify whether this is a breach or whether I've misunderstood the putting only rule.
I deliberately laid up to avoid being on the green surface and put myself a good 20-30 yards further away.

Actually its fringe. I wondered about it myself and went and played a quick round and pitched to there. In the top right where it shows your ball it says fringe. The little picture shows long grass. I also went into screenshot mode moved the camera around and took several pictures. Zoomed in you can see the border. It also gives you a default wedge. I tried to even putt there and it was obvious not green lol
Its a very large area of fringe. Very hard to see the difference though

How do you tell the difference when you are playing your 2nd? Also, to other designers, how do you get that much fringe? There must about 10-15 yards of fringe.

I guess the only way to know for sure is look at the top right where it shows you ball. It will say there and the picture you can see the difference between green, rough, fringe etc..usually mine always is heavy rough lol.
I was curious how the designer did that myself. May need to try it on the course im working on

Yeah but the rest of the fringe around the greens are the usual size. That setting is global. So the fringe would be that size around the entire green this section is large. Green sized in itself

I think this was the par 5? If so, the colour of the semi rough looks like the colour of the green.

In case anybody is interested the folks over at TGC Forum explains how to get the big fringe. Essentially, choose the green texture with the big fuzzy around it and then go into the editor and increase the fringe size. I haven't actually tried it yet but that's what I've been instructed to do.
Here is the video that shows how to do it.

Thanks Wags for investigating this and copping the flak on the forum . I seem to have missed the whole fringe options and now I understand what those brushes are for. I'm not in favour of it though because on the first round it looks so much like green at first glance so I laid up to avoid what I thought would be a massive putt. Never mind, I still got closer to the pin with my 3rd than the ghosts that were flopping from the fringe Anyway, apologies to everyone for getting this a bit off topic. I'll get it back on topic by saying I shot -8, -11, -11,-12 for a total -42. I hope that might be good enough for an exemption spot. I left plenty of shots out there as I kept reading too much break in those slow greens, especially early on. I expect the winner though will be -50-ish.

Yeah, the scores are going to be insanely low, especially in Class A. Even I shot 11 under in round 2 and I'm in E Class. We have one guy so far who shot 14 under in round 1. I suspect even in E Class that it's going to take better than 50 under to win this. Crazy. Just crazy.

I hate hole 11. Hate it,Hate it, Hate it, HATE ITTTTTTTTTTTTT. New least favorite hole in all of TGC, If you get behind the pin gg cause that slope is disgusting.... If you tap it as lightly as humanly possible and miss then it will go at minimum 20-25 ft past. On a brighter note my score overall was not terrible, i'll hold onto it for now but I'm quietly confident of a top 20. I did however miss SIX eagle putts by less than 3 inches which made me real sad

And to tell the difference, in the preview, the green shows the grid, but the fringe does not. That's the best way to know where the fringe ends
