Wow I really feel sorry for Chris since it was not his scorecard that failed. Here is an idea Doyley I know it isn't ideal but I think it may be a solution.
Admin or someone can create a one round tourney and publish it. Those feeling that they may tie can go ahead and play it. It would close on Sunday.
1. If there is a tie, the person who shoots the lowest 18 holes on this one tourney is the winner.
2. If there is still a tie after this, the go back to whatever original tie breaker you had
3. If someone who ties doesn't play the tie breaker round, but then the one that completes it wins.
4. If multiple people tie and play, the winner will be the one with the fewest strokes
5. If there are multiple ties after this one round tourney, original tie breaker rules are in play for only the players that tied in the one round tourney.
The reason I like this is it allows extra play with less chance for glitches. It also keeps the tournaments ending on the weekend. It allows players who play their rounds at the beginning of the week who may not be able to play later, to go ahead and play it if they shoot really well. If there is no tie for the #1 spot, then their round means nothing.
The major downside of this is the extra work for the admin and/or the people who have to set this up. If you don't want to do it for all tours, then maybe just for the PGA/Euro tours. Personally I'm sure you can find a few folks to volunteer to make this one round tournament every week. I would volunteer for the PC side.
Just a thought as I understand the current system can have glitches and the previous version(s), one rewards the person who plays the best fourth round and previously it rewarded the higher WGR player. This seems the fairest of all to me.
