So I'm not sure what Doyley was on when approving this pin placement, but if you are above the hole and go 6 inches past the hole you are at the front of the green as my playing partner found out. In a completely luck box way I found out how to play this hole properly. Good luck Euro folks.. SHEEESH this course when I rangered it had some tough pins but fair, this was Thursday's round and there were at least 4 holes like this right on the edge of a of Mount Everest. As a note, I was playing for the right side of the green to try and do what I did, but this was ridonkulous. Now go out and practice this shot, being in the rough is a must tho.. Remember that.

Just played the first round of the practice tour. I don't wanna be disrespectful, but if I was the reviewer of this course, I most likely would not have approved it at all. No offense here, just my personal opinion.
While it has a great layout and some very nice gimmicks, at least 50% of the pin positions (at least on Thursday version) are doubtful, and 2/3 of the green sculpting is simply overdone, especially near the pin.
I accept the challenge and will try my best (as always), but this is not going to be fun. Sorry!

I don't think the pin positions are any worse than some others we've seen recently (Belmont for example) but, and I've said this before, it's the firmess in conjunction with the slopes that make it feel very tricked up at times.
Courses like Tobo & Ballylough had the slopes but more reasonable firmness (and in the case of Ballylough Bigger Greens) so whilst difficult were very enjoyable to play as the rewards were there if you executed.
Balwearie feels like much more of a lottery. I still enjoy playing it, but it would have been perfect with reduced firmness IMO.

A)don't hit it in the heavy rough and B)everybody would have had to deal with this pin.

Just played it and shot +7 or something like that. Think the pins are fine. Putted from above the hole on 6 with no problems. Did chicken out and left it two feet short, but there is at least 5 feet of green as a cushion before the drop. Ramming the putt down the slope has to be considered a bad miss.
Overall the greens are a bit too "binary" for me. Slopes are just a bit too sharp. But the Thursday pins are absolutely playable and does present some risk/reward holes and some holes where it's more do or die. As a tournament set up its fine.

I will most likely stream it to, so if you are interested, I'll leave a note in the shoutbox when I start. I see theres a new version of the Thursday course been created Really? Any official statement on this?

Brad and I decided to play it and we saw that Doyley was streaming the original Thursday version at the same time. Brad asked if there was any difference, but Doyley said they're the same. We couldn't tell of any difference when playing. I still sucked and scraped an Even round in 2-8 wind.

Okay... just finished Rd2 (-3) and Rd3 (+3), and now I'm even thinking about withdrawing.
This is just not real. Harbour Pointe is a cat against that course!
Most unrealistic greens I've ever seen! This firmness combined with undulations like this are just §$!"?%.

Lol, it is going to be tough, hell yeah, just imagine each day in +15mph winds, people are going to have cricket scores, the fun will not be shooting low, it will be avoiding a disastrous score Lol. Don't be soft and pull the pin.......

Balwearie is just brutal where Harbour Pointe, while probably more difficult, is a more subtle kind of torture. Not that there is anything wrong with being a brute - but Balwearie is some way off joining the elite club - Legacy at Cape, Copper Creek, Conservatory, and Harbour Pointe (probably the best course in the game).

FYI - Biggins accidiently published a course w/out changing the name - hence the New in the title. Both versions are identical.

I think I'm going to try a play this full tour, played a little of the Thursday today and got chewed on 11, had at least 3 100 foot putts up to that point. These greens should be the watermark of all greens on TGC. Absolutely brilliant course, fantastic greens and my new complete favorite course.
Only bad thing, Biggins is the only designer that can design a course like this and get the plays.
