The pin placements are a joke. Plain simple. A pin placement like on Hole 16 in Round 1 should never be acceptable. This overshadows a beautifully crafted course with fair firmness. Actually I putted great in round 1 and definitely had to as all of a sudden I just could not get 100% strokes any more. Never scrambled better. And 4 under par on the last 5 holes helped a lot to reach a decent 66.

So, lesson of the week, yes you played each day with all pin placements in a practice but that's not much good if your not going to take anything on board! Just left the ball the wrong side of the hole just to many times!! Disappointed with myself after trying all year to put myself in this position with the best! 71-68-66-68 for a -7 total! Could of been so much worse but then some of those putts when you did put yourself in position it should of been better! Was under Par though, small positives! Lol. But, I did notice the wind behaving very odd! I use draw and fade bias to counter wind between 7-15mph but whether it's just me I didn't feel this behaved as normal, anyone else notice anything different? Hopefully see you guys at Whistling Straits were I hope to play the golf I know I can.

I managed to play a few practise rounds and threw in a few stinkers. Knowing that the pins could be nasty and the fact that I've developed the yips in the last week, my approach was to play this one ultra safe. I noticed that Brighttail used this kind of approach in The Open and he won the thing! The same can happen here right?
In the end I only finished -10. I left myself with a lot of putts that were roughly the 20ft range and they we're generally in stinky positions, meaning a lot of big sliders and having to tap them too to stop them going 45ft past the hole. Still some 3 putts left in there, but nothing as horrendous as the practise rounds.
Onwards to next week. Hopefully I get rid of the yips and start sinking some f***ing putts!

More than that shouldn't be needed in a WGC event or a major. Maybe not every hole but a few is fine. I was the opposite of you, could not putt or chip to save my life but that was more to do with me hitting the ball to the wrong side of the hole and swinging bad than the greens being difficult. 66 is a good opening score, hope you keep it up!

I came into this tourney with the mindset I was just going to get it over with. As much as I love crazy's courses for the most part, this course required a putting skill level that I just didn't feel like working towards. The winds weren't really an issue, I had several shots within 12 feet, but when you have a 3 foot putt slide by the hole 40 feet, it just doesn't lend to myself having fun. The pin placements for many greens were on top of a soup bowl and there is nothing more frustrating than to hit a beautiful shot that slides inside the grid of the pin only to take a right turn and roll 40 feet down a hill. It is what it is, I hope others had more fun than I did. I for one am glad it is over.

Healthy attitude I think and insightful to say you just didn't feel like working towards the putting skill level required. And that's fine, we can't all like every course. I will say this though, the winner of this event will not be someone who went into it thinking "just get it over with" Much like Jordan Spieth at Chambers Bay where everyone else was bashing the course...they practically gave up before the tournament even started. He looked at the positive side and rose to the challenge. Better luck in the next one!

He looked at the positive side and rose to the challenge. Better luck in the next one! Hey I'm honest. I consistently shot -7 in similar winds in my own little tournament i set up for this course, but I had to work for it each and every shot. After doing so for about a week, I honestly grew tired of hitting a spectacular shot that seemingly would roll up to the pin for a 3-6 footer and die, only to have it roll down some hill and you are left 20-40 feet away. For me golf should be challenging and in this case I found all too often I would hit what seems to be a great shot only to have it roll out somewhere. On the plus side while I did miss a short putt and have it roll down 40 feet, I didn't have any putts where i was going up one or two rises and not make it only to have it roll back at my feet. Bottom line, I play this for fun and there are courses that fit my style and those that do not. I'm sure we are all like that. You are right I came into this tournament not really caring and maybe that was the wrong attitude but after seeing the US Open, I know it happens. I'm sure i'll be back next week.

OK. Hole 2 Round 2 is my new favourite for worst pin placement.

I enjoyed the course. It was nice challenge and I had to think about each shot which should be the way on the big events. People complain about the greens but some of them I just played for a 2 putt no matter how far. If cup was just before a down slope I just made sure not to hit it past and if it wasn't I knew I could be more aggressive with my putts. Everyone played the same course with the same conditions so just have to play extra safe on some holes.

I think this was a beautiful looking course, destroyed by tricked up, soup bowl greens.
Well done to those of you at the top.. You guys played quite brilliantly and are insanely good...
Whoever takes the victory this week will have really worked hard to earn it

67-68 to finish for a total of -21.
The extra yardage made it really tough for me. Made some foolish mistakes, missed some putts and had some bad breaks and that was enough to end any chance i had of winning by mid way through the 3rd round.
I love a challenge and i love Canucks courses but hitting it to 5 feet and still having a putt with 3 feet of break got pretty tiresome after a while.
Still, despite my collapse i'm expecting a Top 15 and a pretty hefty pay cheque. Lessons learned about what is needed to win these big events too.

Well, I clearly screwed this course set up again, for a second time. It was tough setting up this course as the greens were very difficult to begin with. I play tested this one much much more but I clearly missed quite a bit. I apologize that many of you aren't having fun (despite many of you putting up good numbers).
I will ask that my courses not be picked for any more PGA/Euro events and will focus on creating easier courses with less demanding greens that average players will hope to find a challenge. I'll admit, my confidence is a bit shot after reading comments over the last few weeks.
I'm hopeful that this tournament doesn't turn people off TGC tours and I will make sure you guys get some courses coming up that have easier greens yet still provide a bit of a challenge for you.
Sorry guys.

Sorry guys. Don't be hard on yourself Canuck, as it's really easy to go overboard when you're creating a course to make sure it doesn't get torn up by the pros. I even did this with my course, but luckily had numerous people tell me that I had done way too much on my beta and I tried to fix it. This is a great setup in every way except for the green slopes honestly. The tee shots are good, the yardage is challenging yet fair in basically every wind, and the firmness plays perfectly. If you had the chance to go in and flatten out some greens, it'd be perfect. The pin placements really weren't too bad with what you had to work with. Your last 3 courses I think perfectly embodied the challenging sloped greens you're looking for without going too far. With the original setups on Kahiko, Capilano, Timberwolf, and Whiskey, you had tough putts, but they were never too unfair to where you could ever complain about it. I hope you don't go and try to make easy courses just so people are happy, as I enjoy each setup you make more and more, and you seem to really be getting nice layouts down that are challenging and fair.

I don't think we are asking for easy courses or pins, just fair. Getting a GIR and taking an 8 is just unacceptable. Having downhill putts with no way to stop near the pin unless you make it, is unacceptable, or any putt that is just missed and proceeds to roll 20+ feet past, or the left/right side of the hole or back to your feet, it's not challenging, it unfair.
Challenging is playing for the green on the approach and having a good 30+ foot birdie putt, not near misses that cause longer putts then the first putt
