Thanks for the info. I like the idea of Himalaya bunkers which is something I will have a go with in the future. I am now about to play Augusta and check out hole 10 and 14 for ideas. Getting rid of unintentional blindness is a good idea but adding intentional blindness is also good as it adds variety to playing a course rather than hitting the ball in one direction. I tend to create holes like the latter because I often don't think. There is a book I read a while back called Grounds For Golf by Geoff Shackleford which has some ideas from real golf courses for blind spots. The reasoning for the question that started this thread was to find out that if a planned blindness was carried out would the TGC judges realise the difference between intentional and unintentional blindness but I'm thinking that what bubbadave pointed out, it would be that, that the judges would be looking for that should be avoided. Play “Hello Friends (L)” It’s LiDAR so authentic slopes and if you play the non major one there’s no stadia blocking views so you’ll get a really good idea on how they use elevation, blindness and also vistas

This is useful too; thefriedegg.com/category/architecture/There’s loads of amazing articles particularly on templates, renovations, great holes and courses. Great reading on a rainy day. The judges will definitely recognise intentional blindness, if done well and sparingly. The issues tend to be with very new designers who use generated terrain and lay down holes but don’t shift the terrain to allow views of the hazards, greens or even fairways so you end up with 50% of the items not being visible. Most of the time everything can be quickly remedied by using the fuzzy blue brush to do large raise / lower movements. Typically it just needs ground before the start of the fairways lowering / teeing area raising / area in front of bunkers lowering / land behind bunkers raising, land in front of greens lowering / land behind raising etc just to frame holes

One other big turn off I see with brand new designers is the greens not sloping with the general lie of the land. For example, if the whole hole is uphill left to right slope, the green should have that gentle slope to it as well. A good thing to do is flatten the whole green as a starting point and then take the fuzzy blue raise brush and place it at the high point of the terrain just off the putting surface and raise a foot or two with half the brush covering the green and this will give a long gentle slope to the green from which you can then micro sculpt your more defined slopes and bumps

I was going to play Augusta last night but it seems there is no course for it in this game. Unless I missed it.

Played it and kind of see what you mean with 10th hole but the course was horrible to play. If that's an exact replica of the course then if I was a real golfer I would stay away unless I intended to snap all of my clubs. After the 14th I was +22 and reached my stroke limit on both 6th and 7th with the excessive sloped greens and deep bunkers I had to dig myself out of.

All bunkers are correct depth and greens correct slopes. It’s set to default at 160 for the hardcore. You can also make greens a bit slower and softer in the settings menu if it played a bit hard. I shoot around Level / -1 with them on 160 (default) and around -4/-6 with them on 134 (moderate)

Also, splash shot is useless in deep bunkers, try a partial flop shot instead

Just loft them right up and add backspin and the ball comes out nicely
