Intro
This course is my second large course project which I put a lot of time into. It has taken me many hours, days, and two versions of TGC to complete throughout this year (Plant-Meter eww). I hope anyone can provide me feedback or help where possible still. Anybody who has time to play my course and review it would be really appreciated on my end. Enjoy your round!
The Mecca @ Sandpines Resort
The Mecca @ Sandpines Resort is a long, intimidating course at 7542 yards (par 72). Though forgiving with its large, wide fairways, the sand dunes which guard bad, errant shots punish golfers dearly. Caddies have their jobs cut out for them when analyzing a golfers approach shots. Most greens are guarded by run-off areas, so be careful to miss on the correct side. Our Superintendent and greens staff work day and night to keep the course in perfect shape and beautiful to the eye.
The Course:
HOLE 1
(413 Yards , Par 4)
A short, easy par 4 to start. Wide-open fairway.
HOLE 2
(232 Yards , Par 3)
Hole 2 is a long downhill par 3. The green is large and receptible, but there are large run-off areas to be wary of.
HOLE 3
(536 Yards , Par 5)
Hole 3 is a picturesque par 5. The tee shot narrows at around 290, so lay back if need be.
HOLE 4
(517 Yards , Par 4)
Hole 4 is the Hardest hole at The Mecca. At 517 yards and a creek in the middle, the hole is looonnnggg. The green is quite accepting to woods. Additionally, this hole is extendable to a par 5, and it plays as a 530 yard par 4 on Fridays of Championship play to its alternate green to the left. The ALT Green is best hit by playing off the speed slope to the left of the primary green and rolling down.
HOLE 5
(307 Yards , Par 4)
Hole 5 is a nice driveable par 4 to a small green. Our staff uses push-mowers to cut down the grass around the green, feeding short shots into the creek.
HOLE 6
(449 Yards , Par 4)
The most intimidating hole at The Mecca. Hole 6 is a medium-length par 4 with a stunning wall of sand. The fairway cuts in on the left and can be reached when there is a downwind. This hole can see approaches with wedges or 4 irons. The green is a volcano-like plateau, with any miss left rolling into the dunes.
HOLE 7
(223 Yards , Par 4)
Hole 7 is a long, accepting par 3. Roll your tee shots between the dunes and the water for the best results.
HOLE 8
(709 Yards , Par 5)
Oh boy! Hole 8 talks a big game at 709 yards, but it is one of the easiest holes on the course. The lay-up area is massive due to the crossings of 3 separate holes. Our rangers are there to make sure nobody on 17 and 9 hit at anyone crossing below. The hole is reachable in 2 on Fridays when the pin is placed on the 17th green to the left of the layup area.
HOLE 9
(398 Yards , Par 4)
A simple, short par 4 rounds out the front 9.
HOLE 1
0
(493 Yards , Par 4)
The back nine begins with a challenging par 4. Keep it under 300 yards off the tee to find the widest fairway on the course. The green is massive and the slope to the right will feed any bad misses back toward the green.
HOLE 1
1
(186 Yards , Par 3)
This redan style green is best played one or two clubs shorter to run the ball in and keep water out of play.
HOLE 1
2
(522 Yards , Par 4)
Though there is not a lot of trouble, 12 is a beast. At 522 yards, it is the longest par 4 on the property (and it's uphill). Do not worry though, it is reached relatively easy in two shots with a good teeshot.
HOLE 1
3
(516 Yards , Par 4)
Another long par 4. This plays much shorter than its scorecard length due to the downhill sloping fairway.
HOLE 1
4
(381 Yards , Par 4)
The easiest hole on the course also has its craziest green. There are 3 tiers. Just find the correct one!
HOLE 1
5
(560 Yards , Par 5)
On the back of the property lies the only hole with zero sand dunes. One bunker lines the middle of a difficult tee shot. Hit over the bunker, and you could reach with an iron. The green is plateaued above the creek on the left and any misses will roll back down.
HOLE 1
6
(590 Yards , Par 5)
Thought 10 had a wide fairway. 16 does too. The green sits off to the right and can be reached with a big, high fade. Otherwise the layup is WIDE-open.
HOLE 1
7
(144 Yards , Par 3)
The best par 3 on the course. Beautiful dunes and flowers in the back make this the best picture of the day.
HOLE 1
8
(367 Yards , Par 4)
A funky little par 4 ends the round. Short of the dunes is the widest fairway on the property so lay back. The fairway cuts all the way to the water and any miss close slopes back into the water. The well-protected, two-tiered green is surrounded by our Superintendent's favorite floral selection.
