Checked out the muni. I loved the look of 16 but it looks incredibly tough. Oh, it is !! And the rough is filled with acorns, tree roots & hardpan ... go astray & you might go anywhere. Prevailing wind is R-L , so between that & the tree on he left, you most have to play to where too little draw(for me) or distance and you are a world o' hurt to get back up to the green.
It's followed by that little par 3 in the pic (the guys & their dogs), so a quick chance at redemption, and 18 is pretty wide open, so a birdie, birdie finish is possible. Scored a "Lions Muni / Golf ATX" cap when helping that friend on the weekend ! Synchronicity, baby.
For a short course, it requires a lot of shot variety to score well. #4 is a par 3 through a VERY narrow tree window to a well-bunkered green, holes 5 & 6 kind of 'spoon' each other, so a blind R-L slightly uphill drive is followed by it's mirror image. The tenth-through-thirteenth is one of my faves. Only #3 & 14 really don't make you plan at the tee how to attack.
I'm kind of surprised more Austin courses aren't created for TGC at this point. The Austin Country Club LIDAR is pretty good, if a little densely treed compared to the real thing in places, and lacking the signature view of the Pennybacker Bridge over the Colorado River.

I agree about the TGC versions of some incredible Texas courses. The colonial lidar I played a couple of weeks ago was a great test with some great strategic holes. But I don’t know if it was lighting or what but I did not feel like I was on colonial. Felt EA sports. And when a Canadian won at TPC San Antonio in 2019 I jumped on the course and it wasn’t even close. That par 5 18th is an awesome hole IRL. Not so much when I played. I do like the the one that they do the match play on. I think that’s Austin. I can’t do RCR’s yet but I would love to have a go at some Western Canadian courses I love. Hardly anything out there on TGC.

There seem to be a huge a mount of US 'Midwestern' courses ... Ohio, Illinois. I'd try an RCR, but don't do LIDAR, and don't have the time to do the greens right, I'm sure.

Enjoyed my -7 under spin round this track. Back tees, pin 1 & medium wind from the South. I think you might be better at this designing stuff than you give yourself credit for Bob. Nice no frills and solid work indeed. Cheers! (Knocked my approach on 17 to 7ft and bagged an eagle) Thanks very much for playing, robn !
Okay, there you go !
