Starlight Lake Golf Club is my entry into the World Cup of Design Contest and is now open and ready for
play.
Theme- Swiss
WCoD Group- F
Designed on PS4
Starlight Lake GC was inspired by a real mountain top spring fed lake on the border of Pennsylvania/
New York in the Catskill Mountains. There is a Summer Camp located on the southeast side of the lake. I
spent my summers at this camp swimming and sailing/ boating in the lake and playing capture the flag in the
woods, and hunting deer in the winter. I recreated all the important elements of the surrounding topography in my sculpting and
layout, and then plotted my course and routing around these features. (trying to minimize huge elevation changes as much as possible- and keeping the course as realistic as possible).
Starlight Lake Golf Club is a single loop course that works its way from the mountain top Clubhouse ,down and around the lake, streams, and
lake marshes and back up the mountain. There is a mulched walking path to help guide your way between greens and tees.
SLGC- Par 72, with 4 par 3s, 8 par 4s and 4 par 5s. Green Speed is 162.
3 Set of Tees-
White (Beginner Clubs and True Sim guys)- 6550y
Blue (Pro Clubs)- 6990y
Black- (Master Clubs)- 7360y
Notes on Playability- There are numerous options off each tee, risk is proportional to aggressiveness off
each tee. OOB is generally around the perimeter of the course; however, there are some internal waste
areas that are designated OOB (to protect the golfers from themselves). The Golfer should be aware of
their right to use the Unplayable Lie option should you find yourself in a waste area. Default greens are
fast/ firm with a speed of 163- I wouldn’t dial it up any faster than that. Pins were rotated; there is no
pin set that is intentionally more difficult than another. Default time is mid morning- in the default
there are very limited shadows on the greens- changing time will bring shadows onto the greens (if such
things matter to you). Planting/ object meter was deliberately capped at about 75% and I spread the
course out to eliminate lag/ FPS issues.
Note to Sim guys- This is a Fantasy course designed for specific club characteristics/ capabilities in a video game- however, if you take a very conservative approach to the course- you should find Starlight Lake GC tough but playable from the White tees.
Good Luck, enjoy your round- and feel free to add reviews/ opinions below.
